Thanks for the information HighCliff! But as read in the forum rules, compilation threads are not allowed. If you don't mind posting individual projects

Berlim? XD

What I really like about Potsdamer Platz, is, that they didn't try to be super modern, following the newest trends, but went for this classic look of the 20ies.
And that they chose only great architects like Renzo Piano, Helmut Jahn and Berlin's very own Hans Kollhof.

Berlin needs something like La Défense in Paris, or the MIBC.

Well, Berlin isn't a financial center like Paris or Frankfurt.

I think it looks nice as it is (especially with that new art-deco building)

It's about the architecture, not about height

No, it does not. While I love Paris and the impressive skyline of La Defense from a distance, actually walking around in La Defense feels cold, vast and empty and some of the architecture looks even kinda rundown and cheap. It's really not a place to enjoy walking around. It's a place of offices and hotels. At night everything is pretty dead there...
Potsdamer Platz feels alive, even though it (sadly) isn't even finished yet. There's a lot to see and do, great mix of history, quality architecture (doesn't need a bunch of skyscrapers), entertainment, great shopping. Soon one of Europe's largest innercity shopping centres will open there: http://www.leipzigerplatz12.de/start.html?&L=1

A plcace doesn't need to feel all cosy and small-scaled to look nice.

Totally agree. Modernism as it is beautifull unfortunatelly it's not on a human scale... :/

I can't wait to see this project finished- being in Berlin every year to see reneval and new developments I can imagine the splendid frontage from the Leipzigerstrasse and hey- seeing the ruins from the back it's gonna be great. Massive planning and nice, typical for Berlin novadays architecture.

It can move? Isn't that what all your politicians want? Centralization? Berlin seems to have a pretty nice historical importance to be the "European" capital.

But Germany isn't a centralized country. We don't have that one and only important city/area like Paris or London. There are everywhere important areas for economy, culture, arts and other things here.

Lol, you can't just move the financial capital from Frankfurt to Berlin. I'd guess, Frankfurt wouldn't really like that... The political capital hasn't even moved from Bonn to Berlin completely yet. It is really not that easy...

What is it with those overground pipes you find in various places in Berlin Mitte? I haven't seen any in Vienna even around construction sites ever but in Berlin they seem to be ubiquitous.

The LP12 is an exciting project btw.

Those pipes transport the high groundwater of construction sites to either the Spree river or the Landwehr canal. Yo know, Berlin is built on swamp land.

This "holier than thou" attitude towards "gentrifiers" is really annoying.

Berlin has a monstrous debt (for German standards) and is still a relatively poor city within Germany. It badly needs more well-to-do inhabitants to pay more taxes.

The architecture will remain there. And hopefully one day, soon, Berlin stops being the destination of choice for people who don't have a penny but think they can "make it" by merely moving to a "hyped" city.

I like Berlin, bear in mind. I visit the place often. It is good to see areas of the city improving, less graffiti, less buildings left to rot and shiny new things going up It is probably the European capital with most potential, particularly because it was a lower baseline from which it started. Then you have things like it becoming the European startup hub and the city has a bright future ahead.

It will only not be a damn-cheap place where you rent a studio for € 250.
