I think Potsdammer Platz requires a deep breath and some time taking it all in to appreciate the design and remodeling. Formerly, it had a more human scale--lower rise buildings, narrower roadways, more intimate cafes and settings. Now it can seem overwhelming and towering and impersonal at first sight. But if one slows his pace, wanders the large plazas, strolls the surrounding areas including the memorial to Klaus von Stauffenberg, one feels embraced by a sense of compatibility with the size and scope of the area. Very pleasing and robust. Once the Leipziger Platz area is complete and the approach from the former anhalter bahnhof area is improved, it will be most compelling.

NYC sterile? Good one. One of the messiest developed country cities I have seen so far. In a good sense.
