Just plant some pine trees to block the sun.

Cladding is too reflective. It will need louvers or less reflective glass, or both!

I agree with critics that the building is very black if sun is not shining and the surroundings are not illuminated to be reflected by the cladding. But I think also as a black coffin, how they call it, the library looks pretty good.

UWC is stepping forward. In August first students will move in. I have to say that I like the idea of the new buildings more, since their facades are finished. One building is still missing. It will be built where there is the street for construction right now.

Even though the weather is so pleasant, these grayish modernist boxes are just totally disgusting to me. Imagine they'd have built some lovely new classical refined mansion-like buildings there, with mansarde roofs and balconies and terraces facing the Dreisam river...

Still, great that Freiburg is getting such an institution in that setting. Probably boosting the city's international image even more.

Not very much visible progress at the university library.

This picture is shot with a polarisation filter, which prevents reflections.

The library gets more expensive and will be finished later. Due to a bancrupty of consulting engineers, which planned the whole interior technology the project will cost now more than 50 million € and will be finished not before Summer 2015. Originally the library shall have opened its doors in October 2014. Costs have been planned with 32 millions. Another reason for higher costs is the construction boom in Germany which shortens capacities.

At UWC construction of the last student building have started. The school opened its doors in September. Works for outdoor facilities are still going on.

Freiburg's University Library turned out really convincing!
I just wish they had gone for another location, as a solitary within a more modernist environment.
Also they should rethink the interior and create a warmer and more inviting atmosphere. Paint the concrete!

Now there's also a proper Wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univer...brary_Freiburg
