Must say I'm impressed by this project! This looks like a real BRT where focus has been on making sure it will work well from the start - and in the future as well. I really love how that station with roundabouts on either side seems ready for connecting a new line to it on at least one side.

That model is also highly worthy of praise. Such a simple idea, but one that can really explain so much, so quickly.

Btw - is there a map of the proposed 7-line system? since it is supposed to also connect with the local & intercity rail and intercity bus lines, a map showing all of that would be a great thing to have. Put expected dates (years) the lines will open on it and it might be a simple way to show how the future will be better for today and might impact how people invest in realestate.

I couldn't understand, how some decision makers are stupid. Or there is corruption?

BRT is a technically simple and cheap solution for poor cities. If city od LAHORE has the money to build viaducts, and level of motorisation is relatevly high, that means that financial abilities are not problem to build rail based rapid transit. Is the bus lobby so strong in LAHORE?

That's a cheap definition of BRT.

Look it up, all sorts of cities develop their BRT networks. Big and small, poor and rich. It's not just matter of being short of money, but also flexibility, construction time and vehicles.

The situation is quite different and Lahore is a very old city, i'm sure none of us would like metros running over and under the old Lahore, MBS seemed the most beneficial and cheaper option, it is designed in a way that it can be converted to a light train system by simply putting train tracks on the brt section (obviously few years down the road).

Congratulations to Pakistan.

I hope similar projects will follow in other large cities such as Karachi and Quetta.

When are the first passenger statistics going to come out? in a year?
What transit existed before this? Just regular buses that got stuck in traffic all the time?

I assume you mean that none of "us" would mind having a metro system already built
That they've built it in a way that makes turning it into LRT easy and cheap is one more point to credit the planners for. That way one huge post in the LRT investment budget has already been dealt with.

Yes I think after one year. Before this there were only regular buses on roads.

Congratulations from India!

This is quite likely the best BRTS in South Asia.

There are several functioning BRTS in India, but the Lahore MBS seems the best implemented.

What are the future expansion plans?

Are the entire system grade seperated? Or is some section along the road with the rest of the vehicle traffics?

Looks like eventually it can be upgraded to a light rail system no matter.
