BERLIN | New Center at Berlin Zoo (City West) | 161m | Pro

There's a fresh proposal for a new 178m skyscscraper and a whole living + business quarter at Berlin Zoo (West).

The area belongs to the city council and is free to develop it. Kleihues architects created a rough simulation for the massing.

There's no final designs and no finished concept, but it seems like a promising project next to the Zoo and Tiergarten (Berlin's Central Park).

Downtown Zoo. Hochhäuser vom Landwehrkanal bis zum Bahnhof Zoo zeigen Pläne von Architekt Jan Kleihues und Ex-Bundesbauchef Florian Mausbach. Simulation: Kleihues+Kleihues

^ Yeah, this area could turn into a central park effect for Berlin, would be quite impressive to see.

That's how it looks like around Charlottenburger Tor currently, where the skyscraper/s will be built:

For the area at Ernst-Reuter-Platz, this classic beauty was planned some years ago:

A design by Patzschke & Partner architects (a Berlin office for classical architecture), located between Otto-Suhr-Allee and Strasse des 17. Juni.

Perhaps this concept will be revived? Would be fantastic.

This is gorgeous

Was it officially cancelled or is there still chance to see it built?

Sure - and you're very welcome to help me. I just created this thread by copying posts from the city thread.

Hopefully that faux-classic thing don't get build. Instead, something post-modern should be built. A Zaha Hadid master site would be a nice addition to Berlin.

Right now, it's rather a study for massing of the building.

Anyway, new classical style is the present style of Berlin. So I'm looking forward to get a massive and beautiful Beisheim Center next to Berlin's Zoo.

Extraordinary stuff could go up as well, but it shouldn't be too massive at this exact location.
It's close to the axis of the Victory Column, Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building.

New visualisations for the City West project:

Still in the early stages, but this project could develop much quicker, than we thought.

An additional view of how the massing could look like at this location (no final renders):

Please build the skyscrapers. German capital needs to be on top.

Contemporary art-deco and neo-classicism are not "faux" but even more authentic than modernism a la Zaha Hadid for Berlin. As Erbse said, they are the contemporary styles of choice. Just have a look at the major mixed use project of Leipziger Platz 12 for example.

You're into plastic boobs? I'm more into natural boobies, so let's give 'em time to grow.

Berlin hopefully won't turn into Spreehattan all of a sudden in the curse of the next 10 years.

It still needs to manifest its classical Berlin Style and raise importance for international investors and employers.

The proposed area here at the Zoo is perfect for densification. Go ahead, Berlin!
