Hong Kong.

Most people don't realise that 70% of the land mass (which is much bigger for starters) is country park. If you're into mountain biking, hiking or beaches, you'll love it here.

Reeks of city vs city.

Anyway, I lived in Hong Kong first and now in Singapore.

Hong Kong:

-Visually more striking. Key for me as a photographer.
-More vibrant
-"Real Asia"
-Victoria harbor (one of the world great harbors)
-The Mountains (for hiking!)
-Skyline
-Outer islands such as Lamma
-Decay makes it a more "real city"
-Faster pace
-Awesome Cantonese and Chinese food
-Better public transport. MTR>MRT. Much faster and more efficient. The airport express is also a big plus.
-Much more service oriented.
-Better choice in terms of products (e.g. electronics)

Singapore

-Cleaner
-Better hygiene
-Less pollution
-Better to raise family because of more space and less pollution.
-Everybody speaks English
-Bigger houses (for the same price as HK with facilities such as pool or Gym)
-On average much better quality of housing
-Less visible wealth gap in street live
-Friendlier people
-Heritage areas (HK almost has none) although some have become too touristy
-Great South East Asian food
-Cheap budget air flights (don't really exist in HK).

Singapore if you have a familylife. If you like calm and quiet.

HK if you want more fun and entertainment, big city life.

I prefer it here in Manila!

Here, a middle class person can afford to live in a nice house complete with a garden and a garage for your car. Plus have a maid. And if you have the money, your own swimming pool as well.

Such is expensive in the cities mentioned.

I think that city vs city topics are interesting if there are no clashes and/or insults between users.

For an Asia-addicted and aviation enthusiast like me the HKG vs SIN topic is a real dilemma. I've never been outside Europe but my dream is to visit most of the Asian metropolis as soon as possible because I have some Japanese friends of mine in Milan and they told me that Asian cities are terrific for whoever like skyscrapers, aviation, different cultures, good food (but keep in mind that nothing in the world beats Italian one) and, let's say it, beautiful girls (I love Asian ones).

So let people respond, please.

PS: I also love warm places so this comparison it's quite interesting as Hong Kong and Singapore have both mild and hot climate. Obviously Singapore hotter than Hong Kong.

Talking about climate I think Hong Kong is better than the year-round hot Singapore but as I can read in the Ribarca's post Singapore have more tranquillity and it is more hygienic and this is a good thing for a guy like me that love cleanliness.

The HKG vs SIN topic is quite a clash because in my opinion they are two thrilling cities!!!

This thread title should be changed to HK and Singapore (Freindly sharing) in order to avoid the city vs city style arguments.

Hong Kong just appeals to me more. I feel restrained in Singapore, but still a beatiful city nonetheless.

I forgot to mention that a plus of Singapore is the diversity of the economy. HK is mostly finance where Singapore is Asia's IT hub. It's easier to find jobs in Singapore as an English only speaker. More and more jobs in HK seem to require Cantonese and/or Mandarin.

So Singapore is good for an European guy that wants to go to live in Asia while HK is more for people with at least a Chinese parent or relatives that raised her/his child up teaching her/him Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin or Hokkien) language. Is it right?

By the way: is Chinese in HK still written in the traditional way, isn't it?

What about Chinese language written in Singapore?
