Beach resorts are the most impressive. Punta del Este is simply amazing. Darwing doesn't seems to have an impressive skyline for its population...

I think most towns of 130,000 in the world have a better skyline than that of Darwin...
Even my hometown, with 75,000 has a much better skyline!

Ponferrada, Spain (69.769-pop) 230km away from the next closest city with more than 500.000 pop(Oporto), and the nearest city is Leon (100km - 134.012-pop)

The first large skyline on the thread that is legit, aka not a resort city. Population is actually just over 500k for the metro though

Des Moines, Iowa

Yellowknife, NT ~17000

Unlike most small Brazilian, Spanish and Floridian cities with skylines, Yellowknife isn't a resort town and it's summer population is roughly the same as it's winter population.

Please, allow me to post Dongtan city.

Dongtan New city, south korea,
Population : 124,326 people (DATA as of 2012 December)

Dongtan was built in the middle of small farm village for the balanced development by south Korean government
It is not a seaside resort city or not a part of surburb of any big megalopolitan cities.
Actually, this new city is still under construction.(Dontan second city is now planned and U/c)
Dongtan belongs to Hwaseong county(administrative district), which have lots of farm villages(it's rural areas, not urbarn areas.)
Dongtan has 4 towers over 200m so far. (The tallest one : 249m)

DATA SOURCE : http://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EB%8F%...8F%84%EC%8B%9C
Sorry, there is not much data in English.

Not really,
Dongtan is a far away from Seoul, considering south korea land size(109th in the world), similar size of Portugal.
It's an independent city, not a bedroom town.
Most people in Dongtan city have moved from neighboring places like Osan, Anseong, Pyeongtaek, Yongin and Suwon.
Of course, it is true that some Seoul citizens have moved from Seoul to Dongtan in search of more relaxed atmosphere or cheap and good quality of residential environment.

But we cannot easily say that Dongtan is a suburb of Seoul.
Becase most of people in Dongtan have their life in Dongtan, NOT MANY IN SEOUL.
For example, they have jobs nearby SAMSUNG R/D center and semiconductor factories or have their own shops as self-employed in Dongtan. Their children go to shools in Dongtan and so on.

Yes, some people in Dongtan may commute from Dongtan to Seoul.
But even some people in Busan or Ulsan commute from Busan to Seoul, as South Korea is a half-day life zone with a bullet train system.
My friend commutes from Dongtan to Sejong city everyday, new administrative capital city, NOT Seoul. For him, Dongtan is not a suburb of Seoul, it is far from the truth for him.
Thanks

Hate to burst your bubble, but I just read a whole article on it, essentially the only reason this city can exist is for people looking to escape Seoul. Hate to say it, but no city would be able to sustain this type of development at this level without having a huge Metro nearby. Furthermore, all these are residential towers, which proves my point. For there to be so many huge residential towers, you must first have huge office towers, because that's what provides the jobs for the people living in the residential towers.

And where are the office towers?
That's right, the office towers for these workers are in Seoul.

I'm deeply sorry.
I didn't see the first page of this thread. I was too hasty. Very sorry.

I realized that people can have a quite diffrent perception of distance, according to their life zone.
I mean there are diffrent perception of distance between korean(tiny land) and canadian or russian(huge landmass)

In korea, the distance between Dongtan and Seoul is far away, which is around 80km(I am not sure)
But in Canada, it can NOT be far away at all, according to big countries standard or criteria.

In korea, even the distance between Busan and Seoul is 389km. (Busan is located at the end of south korea as a big city(Second largest city)

If Dongtan is NOT appropriate to your criteria, I would delete it. Sorry again!

Thanks,
It is ture that most of towers are residential towers(actually, in fact, many of them are mixed-used)
In korea, building an office tower only is not that usual and common except for huge companies like SAMSUNG or LG.
Instead, most people in Korea want to build mixed-use towers which have commercial space and aparment for better bussiness value.
For example, Matapolis, the tallest one, has clothes shops, dental clinics, restaurants and many commercial space in the lower floors.

Also, there are many officetel(office + apartment) which many people open their bussiness at day time and sleep there at night. They look like residential tower, like what you see in these pictues, of course. people in these kind of towes don't commute. Get it?

Most importantly, there are big industrial complex in southern Gyunggido area, for instance, SAMSUNG Giheung semiconductor factories, SSANGYONG MOTOR, ASAN factories.
Therefore, many people wnat to live in Dongtan for their working places.

I really hate to say this.
But do you really think all people in Dongtan have moved in just for escaping Seoul?
Are you judging by only your criteria or what you see in the pictures?
People's life style is quite different, according to the countries.
You are seeing and judging by ONLY based on your perception and knowledge from western standard.
But korea is diffrent.

Actually, there is no conception of surburb in korea, The concept of surburb is western concept. In korea, we have satellite cities. The big difference between surburb and satellite cities have their own communities(locality), even though satellite cities have dependence on big city.
Think about the solar system. There are many planets around the Sun. But each planet has its own character, not Sun's slave.

It's ok, no need to delete it. I have to admit I like its skyline even it's really a hinterland of Seoul.

Benidorm by miles. One of my favourite skylines.

With the Puig Campana behind it and the lovely blue sea, its part natural part manmade beauty is much better than Dubai, which is just a lot of sand next to some water...
