Looks like there's some flooding at the light rail station's excavation site. Could be the fact that Tel Aviv is probably at sea level. If you're trying to construct an underground rail transit system in a city that is at or below sea level, you will most likely reach water, and will affect construction.

That's just one of many problems we have with constructing this line, money issues are the major setback.

much as I like subways, given the water table issue, wouldn't a monorail be a better choice?

Since most of the city is recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site, monorail is out of the question. besides, the entire system isn't just for the city of Tel Aviv, it streches out to the entire Gush Dan area which includes several cities in differant heights.

There are also two "hidden" subway stations in Tel Aviv from the 80s but they were never used. I don't think flooding was an issue then.

Tel Aviv interchange shortlist
23 Feb 2015

ISRAEL: Project authority NTA has shortlisted four consortia to construct the underground Carlibach station on the planned Tel Aviv light metro network:
 • Sikun & Binui Solel Boneh Infrastructure and China Railway Tunnel Group;
 • Shapir Civil & Marine Engineering and Ghella Impresa Pizzarotti;
 • Dania Sivus and China Civil Engineering Construction Corp;
 • Minrav Engineering and China Harbour Engineering Co.
The winning bid is due to be announced in mid-2015, and work is due to begin later in the year.

Carlibach will be an interchange between the Red Line, now under construction, and the proposed Green Line. The two lines would be on separate levels, with a ticket hall on a third level. Construction will involve the demolition of a road bridge and its replacement by a road tunnel

Few pics from Tel Aviv from my trip.
City bus:

Train stn.: Tel Aviv - Savidor Central, also known as Arlozorov or Merkaz

What's weird, stations have several names, so u never know where to get off.
As in this example the voice anouncement tells you- that next stop is "Tel Aviv - Merkaz"
but as the train arrives at the station you see a bit different name: Savidor Central Stn.
in common use is one more name: Arlozorov, which is the street name where the station is located.
So be prepared and ask people to be sure.

Rolling stock?

Hi,

Does anybody know what the rolling stock will be like? Is it more like a metro or a light rail?

Do you know what it will look like? Is Siemes the provider? I can't find any information, apart from some news snippets that say that the rolling stock tender was postponed back in November 2014.

TEL AVIV | Public Transport

I didn't see a thread here, so I figured I'd start one. The TA light rail is beginning construction this Sunday, 2 August 2015! Chaos and traffic are expected on the already traffic plagued streets, but the first phase of the project is expected to be completed in the early 2020s.
