And here's what I just saw... from the Wall Street Journal:

Bombardier Secures New Launch Operator for CSeries Jet

Canadian Company Maintains Second-Half 2015 Delivery to Undisclosed Airline

Quote:
Bombardier Inc. on Friday said it had secured a new launch operator for its CSeries jet, clearing a significant commercial hurdle for the Canadian company’s plan to deliver the new 125-passenger plane in the second half of 2015.

Bombardier previously has had two tentative launch operators for its single-aisle CS100 jet, which is currently in flight testing. Gulf Air, the first in 2011, dropped its plans to be the premier operator by 2013, and Malmφ Aviation of Sweden, a unit of Braathens Aviation Group, declined the role this past August, citing a strategic review of its business.

Bombardier declined to name the new planned first operator for the CS100 jet. A spokeswoman said it is up to the airline to make it public.

Which airline do you think would be the launch customer for the upcoming C-Series?

I think it could be Swiss Euopean Airlines that becomes the launch customer.

How come Swiss European? It currently does not operate any Bombardier aircraft, has it?

It's part of Lufthansas strategy for Swiss - they're replacing their Avro RJ100 models with it.

Ah... I remember Lufthansa group does operate the Bombardier, with the CRJ-200, 700, and 900 series. But not with Swiss, though... it would actually bring commonality throughout the group with a nearly-unified aircraft type (manufacturer-wise).

Bombardier is having some serious issues right now. Today it issued a downward revision on he 2014 together will a pause of the Learjet 85 program, resulting in a cut of 1,000 jobs.

Sales haven't been good in both the Business and Commercial Jet sector. The CSeries has not caught on with customers, sales are slow especially compared with the A320 neo and 737 MAX. Bombardier is also not able to compete with ATR in the turboprop segment and with Embraer in the small commercial jet segment. Last month the head of Bombardier commercial airplane programs already left. The pause of the Learjet 85 also shows the difficulties it has in the business jet segment.

Bombardier shares dropped 22% on Thursday after the following announcement was made:

Quote:
Bombardier Pauses its Learjet 85 Program and Revises its 2014 Guidance

Bombardier Inc. announced today the pause of its Learjet 85 business aircraft program. The pause is due to weak demand for the Learjet 85 aircraft and follows a downward revision of Bombardier’s business aircraft market forecast. This reflects the continued weakness of the Light aircraft category since the economic downturn. As a result, the Company will record a pre-tax special charge in the fourth quarter of 2014 of approximately $1.4 billion mainly related to the impairment of the Learjet 85 development costs. Additionally, Bombardier will reduce its workforce by approximately 1,000 employees at its sites in Querιtaro, Mexico, and Wichita, United States. A severance provision of approximately $25 million will be recorded as a special item during the first quarter of 2015.

“Bombardier constantly monitors its product strategy and development priorities,” said Pierre Beaudoin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. “Given the weakness of the market, we made the difficult decision to pause the Learjet 85 program at this time. We will focus our resources on our two other clean-sheet aircraft programs under development, CSeries and Global 7000/8000, for which we see tremendous market potential. Both programs are progressing well.”

Furthermore, following a review of preliminary results compiled by Bombardier for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2014, it has become clear that certain financial guidance previously provided will not be met. Based on these preliminary results, Bombardier is updating its guidance for 2014.

Earnings before financing expenses, financing income and income taxes (EBIT) before special items(1) at Aerospace (BA) is expected to be approximately 4% compared with a previous guidance of 5%. The variation is mainly due to increased provisions for credit and residual value guarantees, pricing pressure on new aircraft sold, as well as a decrease in fair value of used aircraft. EBIT before special items(1) at Transportation (BT) is expected to be approximately 5% compared to a previous guidance of 6%. This variation is mainly due to revised escalation assumptions for some contracts which impacted estimated future revenues.

Aerospace exceeded its delivery targets with a total of approximately 290 aircraft (204 business, 84 commercial and two amphibious aircraft), compared with a guidance of 200 business and 80 commercial aircraft deliveries. This represents a 22% increase compared with the deliveries of 238 aircraft for the previous year (180 business, 55 commercial and three amphibious aircraft).

Hi

I did not see the info there. RwandAir will take delivery of a brand new Q400NG, by March or April 2015. It will join the first one delivered last year.

Is someone has more infos about the first airline that will use the C-Series in Africa ? South African Express, Arik Air or RwandAir. One of these 3 airlines signed a LOI, last year.

Three more Q400s for Luxair. Good year so far for Bombardier, they already have orders for 2 Q400s for Horizon and 13 for Jazz. This brings the total to 18 ordered so far in 2015.
