Gosh, there's so much riding on this for Bombardier, Canada's place in the aerospace industry, and national pride. It's a wonderful aircraft but it will boil down to whether they can avoid a bidding war with Airbus and Boeing. They don't have the scale to win if it comes down to that.

Come on Bombardier!

Somewhat unrelated to the CS300 first flight, but how long until Porter can get it approved for use at Billy Bishop?

FTV5 (first CS100 with passenger cabin) flew today.

Quote:
FTV5 Takes to the Skies!

Bombardier confirmed today that the fifth CS100 flight test vehicle (FTV5) – the CSeries aircraft equipped with the first finished cabin interior – took to the skies on March 18, 2015, from Mirabel, Québec. FTV5 received Transport Canada’s Flight Test Permit on March 12, 2015 and is the sixth CSeries aircraft to join the flight test program.

The first flight was conducted under the command of Capt. Simon Bowell, Flight Test Pilot, Bombardier Flight Test Centre. Capt. Bowel was assisted by First Officer Mark Elliott and Flight Test Engineers Constantin Stan and Cristian Salas.

“Today we reached an exciting milestone as the last CS100 test aircraft and the only one to be fitted with a full interior joined the flight test program – demonstrating the high amount of maturity we’ve built into the aircraft over the past few months,” said Rob Dewar, Vice President, CSeries Program. “FTV5 will be used to test all the passenger experience related systems, such as ventilation, lighting, ordinance systems, seats, galleys and lavatories.”

Today’s flight comes on the heels of the CS300 aircraft’s first flight on February 27, 2015. The first CS300 aircraft completed its inaugural flight and together with the other CSeries flight test aircraft, there are now six aircraft in the certification program. The CSeries aircraft program has accumulated well over 1,200 combined CS100 and CS300 flight hours.

A new Malaysian airline called flymojo has agreed to buy 20 CSeries jets from Bombardier, with the possibility of buying 20 more later.

Bombardier said in a release Tuesday that a company called Fly Mojo Sdn Bhd, set up by the Government of Malaysia to own the new airline, would pay $1.47 billion US for the 20 smaller CSeries 100 jets, a figure that could increase to $2.94 billion US, should flymojo exercise all its options to buy 20 more planes.

Bombardier has received type certification from the Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for its 86-seat Q400 aircraft.
The certificate was awarded to the company at a ceremony at ANAC's offices in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil.
