C Series certification expected in 2015 and first delivery H1 2016 to Swiss.

http://www.marketwired.com/press-rel....a-2063616.htm

I wonder when they will start to deliver to Odyssey Airlines . I do, really.

Still pissing thru money ( $ means Canadian $ where used)

http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/7917f...#axzz3qz48Ez7x

Half the new jets investment has been bought by Quebec province for $1bn. Seeing as that investment is well over $5bn.......

Quote:
The C Series, which has already cost $5.4bn, would require a further $2bn spending before it reaches a cash break-even position, Mr Bellemare said.
$4.9bn

Richard Aboulafia, analyst at the Virginia-based Teal Group, said that the agreement with Québec provided a “woefully inadequate amount of cash” to rescue the C Series, which has won orders for only 243 aircraft
Cash break even means that each plane delivery covers its own construction cost. The issue of repaying $7Bn of development costs from an order book of 240 aircraft ( so far) has been parked. But it looks like Bombardier only get half the writeback on the books and Quebec the rest.

Bombardier also wrote down Billions to try to balance that issue on its books.

As to why Quebec province would invest $1bn.

http://ca.reuters.com/article/busine...0SO0B620151030

Quote:
The aerospace industry makes up about 10 percent of Quebec's export revenues, about 1.5 percent of its gross domestic product, and about 40,000 jobs that pay double the provincial average - making it an economic lynchpin.

Part of the Quebec investment was also that they permanently killed off the Learjet 85 program which had been mothballed in January (they built a whole new factory to manufacture them ended up only building two prototypes). The talk is Bombardier has asked the Federal government for a further $350m loan but that Quebec wanted the federal government to give Bombardier a $1bn loan.

Here's something I've been thinking for a while. Given the C-Series is having its problems and Bombardier has offered to sell the program- could this be an opportunity for Lockheed Martin or Northrop Grumman to re-enter/enter respectively the commercial aviation market by purchasing the rights for this program and reduce their complete dependence on the defense market? What do you people think?

I heard Abu Dhabi might buy the program in good hard cash

Delta says maybe to the C Series, United off the table now as they went with the 737-700 instead for their regional fleet refresh.

Quote:
United Airlines announced Thursday that it will buy 40 narrow-body aircraft from Boeing Co. in a deal worth US$3.2 billion at list prices.

United had made it clear that it wanted to replace its 50-seat regional planes with larger aircraft in 2016. Chief financial officer Gerry Laderman said the CSeries was a candidate but the airline opted for Boeing’s 737-700 instead.

According to the article in Flight Global, the order is not dead yet as many other articles have posted. This was only a partial order.

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...-order-421081/

Quote:
“We are continuing to pursue additional aircraft to continue upgauging and meet our capacity plans,” says Gerry Laderman, acting chief financial officer of the Chicago-based carrier, during an earnings call today.

United considered the Airbus A319, Boeing 737-700 and 100-seat models from both Bombardier and Embraer – likely the airframers’ respective CS100 and E190 or E195 – for the order it placed today, he says. While the 737 won this order “batch”, all of the models remain on the table.

“We will continue to look at [all] those aircraft types going forward,” says Laderman
