P&W may not be able to deliver the serial production C Series engines until June. They are tweaking the A320 variant still. They had promised software and hardware fixes to known issues affecting that variant by the end of this month and made that promise as recently as December last.

Why are Boeing and Airbus undercutting with prices that are pretty much giving away their planes?

Great article to read and note that this is the same view held by many.

Boeing are undercutting, nobody is that interested in the smaller Airbus 31x frames so are not involved in this dumping practice evident with the 737-700.

The dumping is clearly aimed at Embraer and Bormbardier and to a lesser extent Sukhoi ...and that's for sure.

Airbus is 'undercutting' with the 320neo not the 319. Pay the same price get extra 40 seats on top.

The possibility of a CS500 might be a reason why Airbus and Boeing are not that comfortable with a regional jet as the C Series. This stretch could bring the seat number up to 180, right into A320 and 737-8 territory. If Airbus and Boeing let Bombardier win with the smaller CS100 & CS300 at some of their key customers it could mean that will switch to Bombardier at a later stage if the CS500 is launched. Bombardier is not planning to do so right now, as it's got enough problems with the current 2 C Series models.

in the meantime, hot from the presses, more bad news:
Quote:
Republic Airways files for bankruptcy protection, leaving CSeries order's fate unknown

Regional carrier Republic Airways Holdings Inc filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday, blaming several quarters of falling revenue after having to ground aircraft amid a pilot shortage.

Republic is the first and so far only U.S.-based carrier to have ordered any of Bombardier's CSeries jets. In 2010, the airline ordered 40 of the larger CS300 model with an option to buy up to 40 more.

A very strange argument.
How do you react, when you go shopping and come across a bargain?
So they offer me '3 for the price of 2'? No thanks, I came to get 2, so I will not even consider taking 3 no matter what...

These deals that Boeing are giving are already starting to come back with negative results. Was it last week their stocks feel because the numbers didn't add up. If you look at the year 2015 Boeing delivered more air frames than Airbus but still lost money where on the other hand Airbus made a good profit.

The issues with the program accounting of the 787 and 747 programs that Boeing uses is much more complicated then just saying that had negative results instead of all the positive results they booked the last couple of years. That has much more to do with future results then with the current situation.

The only manufacturer out of the 3 (A & B & B) which really has financial issues right now is Bombardier.

CS100 now on route proving ( and training ground handling staff etc) across Europe at Swiss destination airports, Bombardier provide the pilots not Swiss.

http://blog.swiss.com/en/2016/03/cs100-route-proving

The first CS100 service flown by Swiss themselves is now scheduled for June. (and CS300 Certification is due about then too with first deliveries of the CS300 to Air Baltic due in late 2016).

Bombardier also took the opportunity this week to inform the media that they intend to deliver 15-20 C Series Aircraft in 2016 starting with the first one to Swiss in Late May or June.

http://airwaysnews.com/blog/2016/03/...ees-the-light/

However as the C Series seemingly lost a big customer when Republic Airways went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy a month ago the new flow...as ever ....is not all good.

http://airwaysnews.com/blog/2016/02/...or-bankruptcy/ ( see bottom section)

Not long now before we see bums paying to be on seats, finally.

Is Delta placing an order for the C Series?

Rumblings over on the pilots forums looks like there is something going on and the C Series was in Atlanta this week for a day or so. Also they are saying that Delta will take the Republic order over.

News has broke that Delta is in negotiations.

Delta Air Lines is in talks with planemakers that could lead to the acquisition of dozens of small narrowbody jets, industry sources said.

The Atlanta-based airline has said it needs to phase out as many as 120 older aircraft as it trades up from regional to larger mainline jets with 100 or more seats.

Industry sources said Canada's Bombardier is pushing particularly hard for a deal for its struggling new CSeries aircraft after losing out to Boeing at United Airlines earlier this year.

A U.S.-based Delta employee who spoke on condition of anonymity said Bombardier executives were in Atlanta this week.

He could not say whether Delta would buy the CSeries because the "negotiations are ongoing".

It was not immediately clear how widespread the talks were at this stage, nor whether the airline had yet decided on the shape or size of a potential order, which some industry sources estimated could involve as many as 50 to 100 aircraft.

"Delta has been evaluating new and used aircraft acquisition opportunities in the roughly 100-seat gauge as we've continued to replace our 50-seat regional fleet with larger, more customer friendly mainline aircraft," an airline spokesman said.

Last month Delta CEO-elect Ed Bastian told a JPMorgan investor conference that it would need more small narrowbody planes in the same category as the 110-130-seat CSeries.

"We have 120 MD-80s that need to be retired over the next five years. So ... there's still a considerable need there."

Such a deal could be attractive for Bombardier, Embraer of Brazil, as well as the smaller types of Airbus or Boeing jetliners. None of the planemakers agreed to comment. (Reporting by Allison Lampert, Tim Hepher, Jeffrey Dastin, Alwyn Scott; Editing by Greg Mahlich)"
