Swiss selects Bombardier’s smart parts programme for C Series aircraft

Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss) has chosen Bombardier's smart parts programme to offer component support for the airline's fleet of 30 new C Series aircraft.

With the ten-year deal, Swiss becomes the launch customer for the C Series smart parts programme. Under the agreement, Bombardier will supply comprehensive component maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, as well as access to a spare part exchange pool and on-site inventory at Swiss's main hub in Zurich.

Bombardier also noted that Swiss is the launch operator for its C Series aircraft, with the first CS100 aircraft planned to be delivered in June. The airline expects to receive a total of 30 CS100 and CS300 aircraft.

Introduced to support Bombardier's Q400 aircraft, the smart parts programme currently has 130 aircraft enrolled by Q400 and C Series customers. Swiss chief technical officer Peter Wojahn said: "As we approach entry-into-service with our CS100 aircraft, we have selected Bombardier as our component services supplier, strengthening our relationship even further.

"The smart parts programme will guarantee part availability and provide us with a cost-effective solution for our component maintenance and spare part requirements.

Fly Comlux to buy Global 6000 business jet from Bombardier

The VIP charter division of charter airline company Comlux The Aviation Group, Fly Comlux, has entered into an agreement to buy a Global 6000 business jet from Bombardier.

Fly Comlux currently operates a fleet a total of six Bombardier business aircraft, which include Challenger 605, Challenger 850, Global 5000 and Global 6000.

With the latest order, the charter operator aims to expand its VIP wide body fleet and boost its position in the wide-cabin and long-haul VIP charter and aircraft management sector in Europe, Central Asia, Russia and the Middle East. Comlux provides its customers a comprehensive set of services such as aircraft management, sales and acquisitions, cabin design, completion, and maintenance services.

Established in 2008, Comlux's completion and maintenance repair organisation, Comlux America, performs maintenance, refurbishment and upgrades. It has also been a Bombardier Business Aircraft authorised aircraft-on-ground (AOG) line maintenance facility since 2009.

Bombardier Business Aircraft sales senior vice-president Peter Likoray said: "With its winning combination of cabin comfort, high-speed range and performance, the Global 6000 business jet is the ideal aircraft to meet the needs of Comlux's elite clientele." Deigned to provide more cabin volume and more floor space than any its rivals, the Global 6000 business jet has the ability to travel 11,112km with up to eight passengers.

In April, Singapore-based jet operator Zetta Jet had exercised options for two Global 6000 ultra-long range business aircraft with Bombardier. Zetta Jet's total aircraft order with Bombardier stands at four firm Global 6000 aircraft with options for two more Global 6000 jets.

C-GWXZ landed in Dublin this evening for a three day visit. First CS100 visit and the first Cityjet SSJ will arrive tomorrow; should be an interesting comparison.

This plane looks really cool! Hope the seating inside will be at least as comfortable as the MD-80 with it's 3-2 seating.

WestJet Encore orders nine Bombardier Q400 turboprop jets

Canada-based regional airline WestJet Encore has placed a firm order to buy nine Q400 turboprop jets from Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.

The deal, valued at $293m based on the list price, is a conversion of options booked by the carrier's parent company WestJet. Once completed, the deal will increase WestJet Encore's fleet to 45 Q400 aircraft.

WestJet Encore president Ferio Pugliese said: "Bombardier's Toronto-built Q400 turboprop airliner has allowed us to expand from our Western Canada base to more and more communities from coast to coast across Canada and into the US and welcome more guests to experience WestJet's hospitality.

"These nine new superb Q400 aircraft will continue to grow our network."

Part of Bombardier's Q series family of aircraft, the Q400 aircraft are designed to provide standard single-class configuration, as well as an optional dual-class interior configuration; an optional extra-capacity configuration offering up to 90 seats; and in a cargo-passenger combi configuration. Currently, the Q400 aircraft family has over 60 owners and operators in almost 40 countries.

So far, Bombardier has received firm orders for a total of 556 Q400 aircraft.

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft regional aircraft vice president Kevin Smith said: "In just three years WestJet Encore's operations have grown from two Q400 aircraft serving just two cities, to 28 aircraft serving 36 destinations in Canada and the US.

"With this order, WestJet Encore has 17 aircraft still to be delivered which will allow further expansion of the airline's network.

"This continuing build-up of WestJet Encore's fleet is a strong testimonial to the Q400 aircraft's economics, reliability, flexibility and passenger appeal."

In December last year, Bombardier received an order, valued at around $63m based on the list price, from Ethiopian Airlines Enterprise (Ethiopian Airlines) for two more Q400 turboprop aircraft. The order would bring Ethiopian Airlines' Q400 aircraft fleet to a total of 19 aircraft.

Swiss Upgrades More CSeries Orders

Swiss International Air Lines will upgrade five of its Bombardier CS100s jets on order to the larger CS300 and is considering doing the same for another five.
Swiss, the launch customer for the new plane, had placed a firm order for 30 CS100s and last year already converted 10 of those to the larger CS300 variant.
The announcement means Swiss now has 15 CS300s on order. With 10 fixed as the CS100 variant, it can still decide to upgrade the final five in the order.
"We are considering whether to convert the last five," Thomas Kluehr, chief executive of Swiss, said at a Star Alliance event in Zurich.
Bombardier flew executives from the Star Alliance member airlines to the event in Zurich on a CS100.

Swiss upgrades more CSeries jet orders

Airline Swiss, part of Lufthansa , has decided to upgrade another five of its Bombardier CS100 jets on order to the larger variant and will likely do the same for another five, the carrier's CEO said on Saturday.

Swiss, the launch customer for the new plane, had placed a firm order for 30 CS100 jets and last year already converted 10 of those to the larger CS300 variant.

Saturday's announcement means Swiss now has 15 CS300 jets on order. With 10 fixed as the CS100 variant, it can still decide to upgrade the final five in the order.

"There are certain routes and markets for the larger version ... especially for Geneva and Zurich routes," Thomas Kluehr, chief executive of Swiss, said at a Star Alliance airlines event in Zurich.

Kluehr said Swiss would decide "relatively soon" whether to upgrade the other five. That would give Swiss 10 125-seater CS100s and 20 145-seater CS300s.

Bombardier flew executives from the Star Alliance member airlines to the event in Zurich on a CS100 plane, stepping up efforts to win new customers.

Kluehr declined to comment on prices paid, saying only that the original contract allowed for an upgrade on the size of the jets.
