Latvia's airBaltic takes delivery of maiden CS300

airBaltic (BT, Riga) has taken delivery of the world's first CS300 following a handing-over ceremony at Montréal Mirabel on Monday, November 28.

YL-CSA (cn 55003) is due to be positioned to Riga on Thursday, December 1 in time for its commercial debut to Amsterdam on Wednesday, December 14.

As the type's launch operator, the Latvian carrier has a total of twenty CS300s on order from Bombardier (BBA, Montréal Trudeau). The aircraft will be used to gradually replace airBaltic's existing fleet of seven B737-300s and five B737-500s

Bombardier sells two CSeries planes to Tanzania
Bombardier Inc. will sell two CSeries aircraft to the government of Tanzania, its first order in seven months for the commercial planes.

The total order is for two CS300 planes and one Q400. By catalogue prices, the order is estimated to be worth about $203 million U.S. The planes will be operated by national carrier Air Tanzania.

The last CSeries order was in April, when U.S. carrier Delta Air Lines confirmed the purchase of 75 CS100s, a firm order valued at $5.6 billion U.S., based on catalogue prices.

Bombardier (TSX:BBD.B) delivered its first CS300 — the largest plane in the CSeries family — to Latvia’s airBaltic. That plane, which can carry up to 160 passengers, will make its first commercial connection Dec. 14, between Riga and Amsterdam. AirBaltic ordered a total of 20 CS300s.

So far, the Montreal-based airplane manufacturer has recieved 360 firm orders for its new aircraft, including 235 for the CS300.

First revenue flight is on Wednesday to Amsterdam for the CS300

CAPA has an excellent article on the C Series here.

http://centreforaviation.com/analysi...service-317615

There are more C Series orders than for EVERY other NEW variant aircraft in the 100 - 150 seat space PUT TOGETHER. (Embraer E2/A310neo/Max 7). This number does not include option.

The Delta order in 2016 was a number of times greater (on its own) that all sales of (Embraer E2/A310neo/Max 7) in 2016 combined.

Quote:
The C Series' total of 360 aircraft on order/in service compares favourably with the orders received by the competing new aircraft programmes. According to the CAPA Fleet Database, there are 178 outstanding orders for the EJets E190-E2 & E195-E2 variants (278 if the smaller E175-E2 is included), 70 orders for the 737 MAX 7 and 56 orders for the A319neo.

However, the CSeries is the only aircraft programme in the 100- to 150-seat range that is an entirely new aircraft, rather than a development of existing programmes.

It still has a very long way to go to catch up with the 1,509 aircraft produced or ordered in all variants of the A319 (including the neo), or the 1,310 in the Boeing 737-700/737 MAX 7.

Type Certification for the CS300 by the FAA.

Link:
https://canadianaviationnews.wordpre...dministration/

Détails:
Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced today that its CS300 airliner has been awarded its Type Validation by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This most recent approval means that both the CS300 aircraft and the smaller CS100 aircraft are now approved by Transport Canada, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the FAA. The FAA recently conducted an operational evaluation on the CS100 and CS300 aircraft and determined that both aircraft will share the same pilot type rating — allowing operators to benefit from significant cost-saving opportunities.
“These airworthiness validations by international authorities recognize the exhaustive process and excellent work done by Bombardier, in conjunction with Transport Canada, who awarded the C Series aircraft their original aircraft type approvals,” said François Caza, Vice President, Product Development and Chief Engineer and Head of Bombardier’s Design Approval Organization. “C Series aircraft combine new materials, new manufacturing processes and new design philosophies, which are fully recognized through the completion of these validations by major international authorities.”
“The SWISS CS100 airliners have had very strong in-service performance to date and are now in their fifth month of operation; and earlier today, the CS300 aircraft entered revenue service with airBaltic’s first passenger flight from Riga to Amsterdam. By also announcing the FAA’s Type Validation on the CS300 aircraft and the same pilot type rating for the CS100 and CS300 aircraft, we are truly having an exciting day and are very proud of meeting all these key C Series aircraft program milestones!” said Rob Dewar, Vice President, C Series Program, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.
“There are airlines around the world that are very interested in the C Series aircraft family but have been waiting for in-service operational experience before committing to the program. We are confident they will really like what they see as the C Series aircraft family continues to meet or exceed the goals that were established for the program,” added Mr. Dewar.

Deal is close to being done between BBD and the CDN Government.

Link:
http://montrealgazette.com/business/..._lsa=8120-8b10

Détails:
Bombardier deal imminent: Bombardier says it’s close to hammering out a financing deal with the federal government even as the transportation giant forecasts strong earnings growth in the next year and enough cash to achieve its turnaround plan. “I think we’re making good progress,” CEO Alain Bellemare said in an interview from New York. In Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he hopes to announce a decision before the next budget. “We’re working in a very productive manner with Bombardier,” he told reporters. “Our government understands the extent to which the aeronautics industry is important to the entire country, not just Quebec.” Bellemare said the request made a year ago for $1 billion (U.S.) would add financial flexibility to manage unexpected risks or to develop its next business or commercial aircraft. Bombardier survived the financial challenges of developing the largest plane in its history with the CSeries jet entering commercial service this year after years of delays and cost overruns. “Our situation has also changed, which is one of the reasons why it has taken a little bit longer but I think that they (the government) are very supportive, they’re looking for solutions and we’re looking for a win-win solution,” Bellemare said. Despite some public criticism about giving the Montreal-based company more taxpayer support, Bellemare said all of its competitors are supported either directly in the development of new products or indirectly through technology development funds or defence spending. “The name of the game is how do we use the brain power that we have in Canada to build products in Canada,” he said.

I'm ok with this. All its rivals receive massive support from their respective governments. Canada is a big aerospace player so we're in the game already.

I imagine when the CS500 is a reality, airlines will have a manufacturer on the market that will offer them the possibility of operating planes that can carry from 125 to 175 passengers (that is in one class configuration, 30 inches pitch). That's amazing because it reduces maintenance costs, instead of having a fleet of CS100/300 and A320/B738 for busiest routes, airlines will be able to operate only Bombardier aircrafts. Also, Boeing and Airbus don't offer a family of single aisle aircraft that can cover the regional market and the A320/737-8's market at the same time. They tried, but the A318 and 737-600 weren't profitable enough and the A319neo and 737 MAX 7 are fading away too (even though they have new engines) in comparison to the CSeries.

I think future is bright for Bombardier.

3 early built CS100 frames (SN50007, 50008 & 50009) in storage. No idea about potential customer.
