Beauty! Can't wait to see it from afar (ie. on the tarmac or in the air)

AIRASIA’S TONY FERNANDES EYEING THE BOMBARDIER CSERIES

Speaking to a gaggle of reporters after a press conference in Montreal, Canada, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said AirAsia was considering purchasing the Bombardier CSeries.

Earlier in the day, Bombardier took Fernandes on a CSeries demonstration flight to showcase the next generation aircraft. The news, first reported by Reuters, would give the CSeries program a much-needed boost. The last order for the CSeries came all the way back in April of 2016 when Delta Air Lines placed an order for 75 CS100s.

Should AirAsia order the CSeries, we predict the order would be sizable. Throughout its history, AirAsia has traditionally ordered aircraft in large quantities. In June of 2011, AirAsia ordered 200 A320neos at a list price of $18.5 billion. The order was the largest A320 order at the time. The airline once again opened up its wallet in July of 2016 when they ordered 100 A321neos for $12.5 billion at list price.

Swiss's 3rd CS300 has been delivered. HB-JCC upon arrival in Zurich:

Total deliveries for 2017: 4 CS100s and 4 CS300s
It's a long way from Bombardier's target of 30 aircraft.

If that happens, it will join Cebu Pacific and Scoot (among a few others) that will operate mixed aircraft types (other than Airbus alone). And I envision AirAsia might use that aircraft type for its super thin routes out of Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Penang for both domestic and regional flights that do not warrant A320 family operations.

And also, I will be pleasantly surprised to see the CS series operate on Transatlantic and thin Transpacific routes, with a slightly higher service ceiling than the B777 and A380 (possibly at FL430 or 43,000 ft).

Trudeau Threatens to Halt Boeing F-18 Deal on Bombardier Dispute
Boeing has a factory in St Louis basically doing nothing now as there are no more F-18 orders on the books AFAIK. Next up will be a Eurofighter order I would think, unless Boeing stop being k**b****s with the trade complaint.

I'm not sure I understand why Boeing is the villain here. Is it not true that Bombardier took provincial money and got the Delta order by offloading planes at an unsustainable price?

Well Boeing got a pile of support from Washington state for the 777 programme. In other words the pot is calling the kettle black here.

https://leehamnews.com/2017/09/25/po...onist-history/

Boeings whining about Airbus (back in the day) putting Lockheed and MDD out of business is shown for what it is in that article, whining.

Boeing spent many years talking about a new model small aircraft, and Bombardier went and built one while Boeing went about yet another refresh of its 1960s 737. Had Boeing built the damn thing I doubt the CS family would have been built at all.

Boeing knows the MAX is the last refresh and that they will eventually have to build a new small aircraft in the 2020s some time and Airbus will have to look at a new small aircraft instead of refreshing its 1980s era A32x aircraft as well.

But in the era of Trump Boeing bet they would get high level lsupport for starting a trade war with Canada and I reckon the bet came in for Boeing. Boeing also see the Chinese 737 and the Russian 737 competitors coming into mass production in a few years and they have no leverage to start a trade war there.

Bombardier should just build a double stretch to compete with the 320/738, and 321/739/10 head to head with there clean sheet airframe.

Boeing know very well where the CS program is leading long term once it becomes widely accepted. These small airframes are the bread and butter regarding profit.

Let's not forget Boeing builds parts in Canada as well that could be extremely taxed if push comes to shove.
