I must return to Berlin and Potsdam - the rebuilding of the Royal Palace and the wonderful restorations and reconstructions in Potsdam are so exciting. There will be so many new things to see.

I try to go each year. Even for 2-3 days only, it's fantastic to see the changes and monitor the progress.

Modernism is a disease that has infected the West and this is just another example.

That'z a pretty arrogant assertion. Derivisely lumping all Modernist architecture together is like lumping together and prejudging people of different nationalities, religions, sexuality, race, gender, etc.. Not all Mexicans are rapists, not all homosexuals are pedophiles, not all Mldernist architecture is garbage, or "a disease".

Seriously? You're going to compare racism and homophobia with an attack on modernist architecture?

Yes he does. It is called the Frankfurt school he believes in with or without knowing. In order to get a one world government, so the followers think, our society has to be divided in small groups. All against each other and therefore harmless. Regional architecture is also a problem, because it creates emotional strength. Not controllable by big money. Everything not under control by big money is under defeat. All groups that do not have to pay their members to show up or to organize things. Like large church groups like Catholics or large families. Unions groups or large Nations. All in the way for one world government.
And architecture is part of it. There are plenty of books of the time when that group started in the 1920`s in Hungary. They planned everything into detail. Like children should be raised by government. Or how furniture should look like people use and so on. The group fled the Hungarian Nazis into Frankfurt/ Germany. They left later and spread over the world. As Anti-Nazis, they where given a open door everywhere.
That is the story behind the story.

Or, also very likely: "He" is not into this and I am mistaken for saying so. He just put it out in a wrong way and used the wrong example.

YOU know nothing about me. I am against gross generalizations. Ad hominen attacks on people, or even architectural styles and equating them with disease? That's not sane. The Berlin Palace isnt a part of Disneyland. A complete refabrication of the lost structure would be nice, but seriously, çities and time are stagnant.

How's that "Disneyland" shite a legitimate argument? How was it ever?
This has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with a theme park. Finally get it!

Pretty much everything his preferred candidate supports.

Personal attacks are not going to win UrbanMyth over.

I am sorry, but we have to win them all over. It probably will take some time
and we can`t save them all! But we can`t insult people. That will push them away further. Also I don`t know UrbanMyth that well like he/she said correctly.

Agreed. We also shouldn't rashly derive harsh conclusions from one's political preferences, especially in architectural contexts that can be quite irritating.

Then again, architectural statements shouldn't be compared to ethnical/political ones. Not even apples-oranges calling here.

And, yet, here we are -- all this over for calling out the absurdity of gross generalizations. Apparently, personal attacks are OK on SSC now as well. Nice.

I don't think so. We just need to calm down, it's heated times we're in somehow.

Architecture can be a tempting topic as well, which is a good thing imho. Only if there are many people that are passionate about it, it's a lively branch of culture. And thanks to many New Classical projects and reconstructions as well as experimental stuff, I have a feeling that architecture really is alive again.
