it could be a multi-storey supermarket, plus more ample space for eating for shoppers

Gosh I hope my old barber found a new site to work at... I used to go to a barbershop in the old Waltermart building called Master Barbershop. The barbers there all used to speak ilocano to each other. I loved it.

i think they demolished the whole thing. or was it too big to be demolished? i think it would be large. btw, exteriors of RObinson's Gateway Mall is almost done. looks cool. tho i dunno how it would attract shoppers, since its quite out of way if ur at Ortigas. Megamall or the other malls nearby are a good catch to shoppers or diners.
or Gateway must be looking at a long term plan...remember Greenfield? |

More Malls!@$! Our city will be flooded by malls...
RLC plans to build 30 malls in 6 years By JAMES A. LOYOLA Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), the real estate development arm of the Gokongwei group of companies, is targeting to have a chain of 30 malls by 2010. In an interview, RLC executive vice president Frederick Go said the firm will continue to build malls at the current rate of two to three a year in Metro Manila and in the provinces. This year, the firm is allotting R2 billion for the construction of malls with plans to break ground for two new but smaller malls in Metro Manila. It is also set to open three malls within the year. Go said the firm has refocused its attention on Metro Manila after it has been opening in key cities in Visayas and Luzon. He said the firm is still waiting for the right time, when the market is ready for new malls in Mindanao where it has acquired land in growing urban areas such as Davao and General Santos cities. Go said the problem with the provinces is that local residents tend to be more loyal to homegrown department stores or supermarkets-turned-malls and giant chains such as Robinsons have a hard time winning them over. RLC is earmarking R4 billion for its capital expenditures for the year. RLC chairman Lance Gokongwei said the capex will be spent on the company’s mall, high rise, hotel and housing development projects. He added that the funds for these project will mostly be generated internally as well as from proceeds from pre-selling activities. Go said the R4 billion capex will be broken down into R2 billion for the ongoing construction of malls as well as new ones that will break ground, R1.3 billion for high rise condominium projects, R400 million for its hotel projects and R300 million for housing projects. The firm’s high-rise projects include the Gateway Tower in Pioneer, the redevelopment of the Manila Midtown Hotel property and a residential tower in Fort Bonifacio Global City. In light of a weak lowcost housing market, the firm will now focus on the lower middle-income market with medium-rise housing priced around the R1 million level. “We will employ our strategy of doing joint-venture with land owners, preselling and selling receivables to government’s funding and guarantee programs and private financial institutions to migrate financing risks associated with development,” Gokongwei said. |

well there are malls everywhere, and they're still popping everywhere. don't expect Gateway to be a failure... at least i hope it wouldn't be one. pinoys don't always stick to the same mall.
but you know what Ayala Center in Makati needs, a good bowling alley aren't they demolishing Coronado Lanes for TRAG?

For any Megamall shoppers on this forum, do they still have those really aggressive real estate salespeople that have a booth in the middle of the mall? There usually were an army of them scattered from one side of the corridor to the other so that if you're a shopper who looks like a perspective house buyer, you could not escape the wall of salespeople because they position themselves crosswise with the flow of people traffic and act like tollbooths of house and lot sellers.
When last I visited Manila, I went to Megamall quite frequently. The first few times I saw them, they tried the hardsell tactic on me and it was hard for me to get away from them. So that the next few times I went back to Megamall, I would always get my cellphone out of my pocket and pretend to be talking on it whenever I pass by them. |

they were probably programmed to act like that
they're renovating the old SM Makati, while the new annex is being used currently. hope they put things that are typical SM: a big cheap food court, skating rink, bowling alley.

Hi people! This is only my second post. Ang galing-galing naman ng forum na ito! I've always enjoyed talking about infrastructure projects or urban development, but among my friends walang nakaka-relate sa hilig ko na ito. I'm so glad I found you people.
Anyway, do you guys know anything about the Harbor View Center that's supposed to be going up beside the CCP, next to the ferry terminal? There's a big architectural rendering at the site and a steel fence around the construction area. Although I don't see much activity inside. The billboard says "Opening Soon". The design appears to be a bit different from the usual Filipino mall, with lots of wings and arches. I could take a picture of the site and post it here if I knew how. |

Well, there's a redevelopment plan for the CCP Complex, here are a couple of renderings:

It's across CCP, it used to be a parking lot between the ferry terminal and Figaro. I can take pics tomorrow. I've been going to CCP every Wednesday for the past 5 months though and nothing seems to be going up on the site, unless maybe they're still digging the foundation.
Also, there's supposed to be an SM Vito Cruz going up in 2005. At first I though they meant SM Harrison Plaza (since it's also along Vito Cruz). But now my guess is this is where the old SM ACA is located, at Vito Cruz extension corner Osmena (South Super) Highway. If that pushes through then there'll be 2 SMs in Makati. |
