Developer: New tower to help show Midland as the ‘Oil Capital of America’

Energy Related Properties officially announced Energy Tower at City Center today during a press conference at Centennial Plaza, the future site of the proposed City Center.

ERP partner

The tower will be 53 stories with one underground retail floor and five basement parking floors, effectively making a total of 59 floors, according to the fact sheet given to the press.
Bill Meyer, a partner with Energy Related Properties, said during the conference the building is a “celebration of resuscitation.”
“Part of this is that we would rename, sort of, our logo and call Midland ‘the Oil Capital of America’ because it is,” Meyer. “It really is.”

Its an oil city in Texas. Quite small, around 120 thousand. This tower will serve as a very visible symbol of the current US energy boom.

If Midland builds this, I will be officially disappointed in my hometown.

And to answer the question of exactly where it is:

Good god!

This one will likely be about 785 ft. tall.

Midland is the hottest, fastest growing city in the US. For anyone unfamiliar, this is the current skyline:

The current oil boom there is the biggest since the late 1950s.

This would be a pretty redonkulous sized building for a small town. Especially one that truly stands on it's own, unlike some regional or suburban cities that may have out of proportion skyscrapers but are arguably part of a greater metropolitan area.

So basically after they finish it will be occupied for a decade then oil will bust again and it will be abandoned like all the other towers next door?

Midland is no ordinary town. None of the rules apply. Downtown is currently being re-envisioned as dense residential and mixed-use development. Having multiple shorter new office towers would only add to the already deadened atmosphere.

Try three decades. Thats how long this oil boom is looking like it will be sustained. And who knows what other discoveries will occur in those thirty years.

Well hey, I do like the way it looks. It's more attractive than a lot of new office buildings in Houston and Dallas.

Height will be 265 meters or 869.30 feet. This will tower over the existing skyline!

Likely the smallest city in the world with a building over 250 meters.

I like it. If you're going to have a standalone skyscraper it would have to look as good as this one.

Parking, a headache... in Midland. MIDLAND?

Does that town have a bit more going on than I think it does or something?

I guess few of those big vacant lots in downtown Midland are used for parking. The city is going nutso so maybe oil workers living in their cars are taking up places?

Nearly 100 ft. taller than the Bow in Calgary!

wow this will be dominating. very thick tower design without tapering into a spire and the current skyline of the city is very low, hope it is quite in the center of the city, so it will look amazing
