Worlds best Observation Towers?

Anybody else love observation towers? What are your favorites?

My vote goes as follows:

1. Sky Tower (Auckland)
2. Space Needle (Seattle)
3. Atakule (Ankara)
4. CN Tower (Toronto)
5. Tokyo Skytree (Tokyo)

Absolutely hate Canton Tower. The lattice structure obstructs the views and you can only do close-up and not wide shots.

Toyko's Eiffel Tower rip-off is great. Thoughtfully it had braille inscriptions around the key to all things you could see out of the windows.

Quite why a blind person would pay to go up an observation deck is another matter.

Man, I can't stand the Orbit Tower in London. What was that architect thinking?!

I would like to amend my list by switching out Atakule for the Rheinturm, in Düsseldorf. It's design may be small, but I think it looks great with its surroundings.

CN Tower is not bad but its overrated and the age of the design really shows. The lattice work on the Canton Tower looks nice on the outside but obstructs views from the inside (a stupid trait for an observation tower). The Ostankino Tower is just unsightly. Therefore Id narrow it down to the Eiffel Tower, the Sky Tree, and the Space Needle as the top observation towers.

I'm not sure how a structure could be overrated when it was an engineering marvel of its time. The CN Tower was declared one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. It was the tallest structure on earth for 34 years. Not till the Burj Kalifa was is surpassed. The CN Tower will always hold a special place in the world.

You argue that it shouldn't be included because it has aged, then in the next breath talk about the Eiffel Tower.

I personally think the CN Tower has aged really well, it hardly looks old at all.

I'll always love the CN Tower - my favorite, too - but my new home for the past 20 or so years now:

Stratosphere Tower, VEGAS, BABY! YEAH!

Made the "mistake" of looking into the display case at the top of the CN Tower that is a clear shot view all the way down to the ground from the top of the tower! (didn't realize I had agoraphobia so great!) Tried to go outside - but the wind was too great.

Did the Big Shot and Rollercoaster (my first) when I first moved here. Rollercoaster was a very "sissy" ride. The Big Shot - glad I was extremely nearsighted at the time - they made everyone take off all glasses & loose jewelry - that was a blast! The rollercoaster is gone now. Original design was to have a "King Kong" go up and down the shaft. It's VEGAS Baby!

It was supposed to be much taller, but since the city grew around the airport that was originally way outside the city limits, it's height had to be cut to about half. The fire code required a fireproof "area of refuge" be built into the top so ALL persons could fit inside in the event of an emergency.

Nothing beats Eiffel for me.

(1) Eiffel Tower
(2) Tokyo Skytree - for its massive height
(3) CN Tower
(4) Space Needle
(5) Canton Tower

CN Tower is my favourite because of its amazing height and because it's in my hometown.

I agree with Isaidso. The CN Tower for me is the gold standard for observation decks. However, been to the CN Tower and the Stratosphere, the actual "viewing experiece" is better in the Stratosphere due to the angled windows

After coming to Toronto I'd have to say the CN Tower is now my favourite.
