Antonov may be Ukrainian based, but it traditionally takes instruction from Russia.

The problem with the An148 was its engines - it was leaked several years earlier that it was more fuel inefficient than expected, and has finally been confirmed. The conflict over Crimea only ensured a quicker retirement.

The reason they are getting rid of An-148 is that there is lack of confidence about spare part supplies from Ukrainian plants. This is definitely going to make insurance against such risks unuffordable for any commercial customer. Especially when airlines in Russia are facing a serious financial problem of tight credits. AFAIK even before the crisis Rossiya's lease payments for An-148s were actually bigger than those for A320s.

Russia produces An-140 and An-148 in accordance with the license agreement, Russia does not have any intellectual property rights to these planes.

Antonov is owned by Ukraine and it takes instruction form Ukraine.
Russia is the biggest customer of Antonov from Civilian to Military air crafts.

Antonov, Ukrainian and other Russian Firms worked together when designing the Aircrafts and making electronics etc. Most of the Aircrafts were built in Russian Factories.

But now Russia doesn't really need Antonov as they have Tupolev and Ilyushin in the UAC.

Russia was not a partner of Ukraine in designing of the An-140, An-148 and An-158.

P.S. China produces Nike but this is an American brand. The majority of Apple products are produced in China, but Apple is an American brand (iPhones are American phones, iPads are American tablet computers, etc).

It goes both ways. Antonov step by step is getting rid of Russian supplies and focusing on new markets/customers.

ANTONOV traditionally sells airplanes in Asian and African countries + Cuba in America. Embraer sells airplanes in other countries/other markets.

Big difference is they have no launch customer for this jet, Embraer have 60 orders. One would appear to be a flop the other is doing well, they are both competing in the same segment.

I know that, Ukraine doesn't need Russian assitance and Russia doesn't need Ukraine that much either.
Ukraine was one of the most advanced members of Soviet Union and with the dissolution of the USSR.

I think Antonov is much more experienced than Ilyusin when it comes to designing cargo and small transport aircraft

ANTONOV airplanes are used in 76 countries. I think that Antonov An-178 will find its niche in the international market.
