ANTONOV Company at the Dubai Airshow 2015

He paid a great deal to the advanced programme of development and construction of new light transport AN−132 being utilized jointly by ANTONOV Company, KACST and Taqnia Aeronautics company with participation of leaders of world aerospace industry. During the exhibition ANTONOV’s exposition was visited by other official representatives of the KSA. Among them are: Air Force Commander, Ministry of Defense official delegations, Aviation commander for the Ministry of National Guard and delegations of Medevac.
In the presence of His Highness, ANTONOV Company and Taqnia Aeronautics company signed two Memorandums of Understanding as for interaction on promotion of four AN−148−100EM medical aircraft, four ISR (intelligence search and rescue) and two Jamming versions of the AN−132 into the market of the KSA.
Retired Major General Ali Mohammed Al−Ghamdi, Chief Executive Officer of Taqnia Aeronautics company, said: “Signing of these Memorandums means the next step in our cooperation with ANTONOV. We see the demand for aircraft of AN−132, AN−148−100EM and AN−178 types in the KSA. These airplanes can be efficiently used in our country and also to be assembled and manufactured for the number of customers. Promotion of new versions of the AN−132 will assist us in study of the potential customers’ requirements to ISR and Jamming aircraft. So, we would develop the new airplanes in strict accordance with their needs. Also we are starting work with ANTONOV Company on the composite and metallic materials to develop technical cooperation.
Mr. Gvozdov, Acting President of ANTONOV Company, noted: ”Cooperation with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is very important for us. Our experience, which we are gaining together on fitting the AN−132 with Western engines and avionics, should be continued on other modern ANTONOV aircraft including line of AN−148, AN−158 and AN−178”.

Antonov has 13,000 employees who delivered 4 planes between them in 2013. 1 plane for every 3250 employees.

In 2014 they delivered 2 or 3 planes. Article on NYT with facts.

The Antonov propoganda department here on SSC is fabulously productive and averages 100 posts per actual delivery at LEAST.

If we are to believe the propoganda Antonov has twice as many aircraft types in production or developement as frames it managed to produce in 2014 perhaps 3 times as many.

This is surely a world record.

1. Profit is the main criterion used in the business world. Antonov Company is consistently profitable company.
2. You must consider that the Antonov airplanes are also produced in Russia and Iran (not only in Ukraine).
3. ~1800 Antonov planes are currently in service in 76 countries. I think this is a good result.

P.S. I've never worked in the Antonov Company.

Many representatives of the operators of civil and military aircraft from countries of the Middle East, Asia and Africa surveyed the AN−178. On November 9, the second day of the exhibition, the airplane was officially presented to the mass media. ANTONOV’s managers and specialists told about AN−178 capabilities and its advantages as compared to the competitors. Returning from Dubai Air Show, АN−178 performed the most durable test flight. It overpassed strong contrary wind with speed of about 150 km/h.
A great attention was paid to the programme of the new AN−132 turboprop transport. ANTONOV Company’s partners from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – employees of KACST (King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology) and Taqnia Aeronautics company, took an active part in the AN−132 presentation. According to Dr. Khaled Abdullah Alhussain, Director of National Center of Aerospace Technology, KACST, «Kingdom of Saudi Arabia needs such aircraft, the market has high potential. We have investigations forecasting a big number of these airplanes to be used in our country. We will propose the aircraft versions of different purposes to our customers».
Representatives of Ministries and authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visited the ANTONOV’s exposition. In the presence of His Highness, ANTONOV Company and Taqnia Aeronautics company signed two Memorandums of Understanding as for interaction on promotion of four AN−148−100EM medical aircraft, four ISR (intelligence search and rescue) and two Jamming versions of the AN−132 into the market of the KSA.
During the exhibition, members of ANTONOV delegation conducted a series of negotiations with world leaders of aeronautical industry aiming to establish cooperation in design and construction of ANTONOV aircraft. One of the top subjects of the discussions was interaction in creation of the service centers in different regions of the world. Mykhaylo Gvozdov, the head of the Company, accentuated: «Nowadays, more than 1800 ANTONOV airplanes are being operated. Our top priority is to provide their proper after−sale support».

On November 19, 2015, five modernized AN−32RE light military transports were passed to Indian Air Force. It was a final batch completing works on overhaul, modernization and service life extension of 40 airplanes. According to the contract’s terms, the 8th batch of the aircraft was modernized at SE Plant 410 of Civil Aviation with active participation of ANTONOV Company, the aircraft designer, and more than 20 other enterprises.
In accordance with the contract, 65 AN−32s have to be overhauled and reequipped into the AN−32RE model at BRD−1 plant of Indian AF in Kanpur with participation of Ukrainian enterprises. Till present, two airplanes were upgraded at this plant. Nowadays, Indian specialists are working on four such airplanes.

For information:

The contract on repair and modernization of 105 AN−32s of Indian AF between Ukraine and India was signed on June 15, 2009. State Self−Supporting Foreign Trade Company SPETSTECHNOEXPORT, subsidiary of UKROBORONPROM State Concern, was selected as the main contractor from Ukrainian party. ANTONOV Company, SE Plant 410 of Civil Aviation, which also included into UKROBORONPROM State Concern, became the subcontractors.
AN−32 light transport was developed by ANTONOV Company on the order of Indian AF. It can be operated in various climatic conditions including hot climate (up to +55oC) and owing to high thrust−to−weight ratio it is capable of operation from/to the elevated airfields (up to 4500 m above sea level) with difficult approaches. Often AN−32s are the only aircraft able to provide connection between mountain settlements and big cities. The AN−32 deliveries were started in 1984.
The decision on the AN−32 modernization was taken because of lack of the proper replacement. Owing to high manoeuvrability and reliability the AN−32 was called as “Silver horse” in India.
New modification of the AN−32 was developed at ANTONOV Company. It was designated as AN−32RE (i.e. reequipped). While upgrading, the airplanes are fitted with up−to−date equipment providing higher level of flight safety, including air collision avoidance system, ground proximity warning system, satellite navigation system, distance measuring equipment, upgraded radio altimeters, new radar with two multifunctional indicators, new oxygen system and improved seats for crew members. The aircraft payload is increased up to 7.5 t.

Antonov−132 is a platform that Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided to utilize following demands of different organizations of the Kingdom as well as the aircraft operators. The need for this kind of aircraft is very justified in our country. The market has very high potential. We had a study that forecased very good number of this aircraft to be utilized in Saudi Arabia.
The reason that we want to develop this project in our country is the ANTONOV’s technology. ANTONOV is a great company which comes with this type of the aircraft, especially for short take off and landing, for very trouble missions, for missions at high elevated runways. They have very efficient systems for such operations.
We would be able to propose different versions of the aircraft for different users: for rescue missions, for passengers, etc. Transport aircraft that we are going to develop with ANTONOV will assist to transfer the technologies as for development of metallic airframe aircraft to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Gaining experience of ANTONOV, we are bringing in the programme great brands, companies, like Pratt&Whitney Canada, which provides the engines for the aircraft. The turboprop technology is very needed especially nowadays. The most of the transport and short−range passenger aircraft are optimized for turboprop. The turboprop is a good solution for regional missions. Also we are talking on the avionics with Honeywell to participate and provide us with glass cockpit and other avionics and electronic systems. Besides, we intend to use Dowty propellers.
So, we generated a cluster of aerospace industry in one platform of the AN−132. Nowadays, ANTONOV is constructing the aircraft−demonstrator AN−132. In the future we, ANTONOV and KACST together, will modernize, improve this aircraft. The future of this will be possibility to compete with any airplane of similar size and similar category. Among the modernized AN−132’s advantages will be fuel efficiency, altitude, landing environment, price.
We are entering the market with coalition of powerful partners to compete with any other similar brand.
Answering the question: “How do you imagine the AN−132?”, Dr. Khaled said: “This is a big bird, that can take off fast and land fast”.
