ANTONOV specialists presented a new AN−178 transport and other programs of the advanced transports and special−purpose aircraft to the attention of the fair participants.

Under adverse weather conditions, rain and low cloud, the air show organizers permitted to fly to German A400M transport and Ukrainian AN−178 only. The An−178 became a debutant of the flight display at the international air show. After the weather improvement, the flight program continued in accordance with the schedule.

In Berlin’s cloudy sky, the AN−178 capabilities were demonstrated by ANTONOV’s test crew consisting of: Andrii Spasibo, the crew captain, Sergii Troshin, co−pilot, Mykola Sydorenko, test flights engineer. The aircraft performed aerobatics for the transport: returns to the left and right, horizontal flight with minimum speed, steep climb followed by right bank and landed.

Earlier, at Le Bourget −2015, France, and Dubai−2015, UAE, the AN−178 was presented at static display.

At present, we are watching over the aircraft tests. In 2018, we intend to receive the first two AN−178s, other eight airplanes – some later. I suppose, that at the middle of 2018, when the first AN−178 to be delivered, the production facilities for the aircraft assembly will be ready in Azerbaijan».

Commenting upon his choice Mr. Askerov said: «We have a vast experience of the AN−12 transport operation. That is a good aircraft, but its service life is coming to the end. So, we have to replace it with a modern freighter. Excluding the AN−178, the market proposes Brazilian KC−390. But we like the AN−178 more, in particular, because of its price. ANTONOV has developed the cargo aircraft meeting all the modern standards and requirements. Besides, comparing with the AN−12, the AN−178 has a number of advantages».

According to Mykhaylo Gvozdov, President of ANTONOV Company, «We appreciate readiness of Azerbaijan to develop interaction within the AN−178 program. We are discussing launch of the aircraft in this country. Of course, Ukrainian companies will take part in cooperation of the AN−178 production».

Are you sure?

Only twelve the An-124 and five the Ilyushin-76-TD-90-VD aircraft are in service of Volga-Dnepr Company (I don't see any the An-22 'Antei').
AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC), what is part of the Volga-Dnepr Group, has the Boeing 747 FreighTer and the Boeing 737-400SF transport aircraft but there is no the An-22 'Antei'.

I know the fleet of the Volga Dnepr Group. Read in the Newspapers, wich are dealing with this topic..., you will find every single time the sentence: "The aircraft's future home is expected to be in Leipzig, Germany."

Таких самолетов МО РФ насчитывает, если я не ошибаюсь, 18 штук, и ресурсы их закончились. Т.е. МО РФ получает возможность, восстановить в эксплуатации свой парк Ан-22А и соответственно возможность одномоментно перебрасывать из средней части России, почти 1500 тонн военных грузов, на грунтовые или неподготовленные аэродромы, куда ни Ан-124, ни Ил-76, ни С5А, ни С17 не сядет.
Я понимаю, что деньги зарабатывать надо, тем более они не пахнут. Только вот, радоваться или плакать, от столь сегодняшнего радостного события, не знаю.

Volga Dnepr has a base in Leipzig for many years...there is a picture around of an Antonov on fire there some years back.

Before then Volga Dnepr had their base in Shannon with 4 x 124s based there for some years.
