Theres a deluge of great Metro pictures on the internet now, and I would like to post some on here.

Also, construction for the Mumbai Metro has commenced. Please visit their website at:

http://www.mumbaimetro1.com/

Also, Metro construction for Chennai is slated to commence soon and is projected to be completed in 66 months.

The first phase of the proposed Chennai Metro project which envisages corridor-1 from airport to Thiruvotiyur, 31.54 km, and corridor -2 EVR Periyar Salai to Fort , 13.54 km, is to be completed in 66 months at an estimated cost of about Rs 9,347 crore, according to the brief project profile submitted to the state government by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
In addition, if it hasn't been posted here already, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has a website as well. That site can be accessed at:

Hopefully it keeps that way. I was talking to my buddy who was in Delhi recently and rode the Metro. He was telling me of the absolute respect that people of Delhi give to the Metro. No littering, no vandalism for the most part, and they actually follow all the rules! The attitude change is wonderful.

No doubt the Delhi Metro has given hope to urban India that it is capable of undertaking such world class projects on time and within budget.

The creation of a clean, pleasant, organised urban environment contributes greatly to the attitude that the people give towards it. In the harsh city environment people are more often rushed, rude and careless.

The metro is a very different step for urban Delhi and it is doubtless that the people approve of it.

There will be very little intergration and instead offer competition.
MMTS is under central ministry of railways and thus a laggard unless you get railway minister hailing from hyderabad. Metro will be a A.P govt-private partnership which will be a non-starter for quite sometime due to land acquisition problems. Technology is completely different including the track width. However users can run across the stations at points like Miyapur and Bharatnagar.

France's Alstom wins 63.8 mln dollar contract for Delhi Metro

NEW DELHI, June 6, 2007 (AFP) - France's Alstom Transport announced Wednesday it had won a contract to supply operations systems for the Indian capital's metro rail network worth 63.8 million dollars (45.5 million euros).

Alstom, which builds the high-speed TGV train, will supply the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation with a train control and signalling system covering 37 kilometres (23 miles) in the sprawling city of 14 million.

The metro system in New Delhi has become a showpiece for the emerging economic superpower with a 65-kilometre first phase finished nearly three years ahead of schedule in 2005, well within its 2.3 billion-dollar budget and without scandal.

Officials want the entire eight-line project, with 225 stations and 245 kilometres of track, finished by 2021.

The metro is separate from the sprawling national rail service.

"In the next five years the transport sector of India is expected to witness a total investment of 62 billion euro (84 billion dollars)," Philippe Mellier, president of Alstom Transport, said in a statement.

"We are very excited with this dynamic and potential market scenario and are keen to participate in this growth effort."

India's state-owned railway has around 1.6 million employees -- making it the world's biggest civilian employer -- and runs thousands of trains daily.

But the 150-year-old network, which transports more than 15 million people daily in the country of 1.1 billion people, has been notorious for antiquated equipment, financial losses, delays and red tape.

The railway reports about 300 accidents a year, many deadly, and is also the target of terror attacks.
