SYDNEY | Darling Harbour Redevelopment | 136m | 40 fl | 136m | 40 fl | 130m | 38 fl | U/C

PROJECT

Quote:
Asia-Pacific’s premium convention centre and exhibition space
The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) will be a central element of the precinct and is expected to provide $200 million in economic benefits each year to NSW.

ICC Sydney’s design, which includes a convention and exhibition centre plus a theatre, delivers 40,000 sqm of exhibition space, accommodating a 20,000 sqm exhibition space on the ground level with a 13,000 sqm exhibition space situated above it. The spaces will be directly linked, allowing the combination to be used for larger exhibitions.

This stacked configuration is suited to a high-density CBD environment and has successfully been used in other modern facilities in Asia and North America. Convex space of 3,000 sqm within the convention centre and over 5,000 sqm of flexible exhibition space across the facility deliver 40,000 sqm of exhibition space in total.

To showcase Sydney's spectacular city and harbour views, a 5,000 sqm Event Deck will provide Sydney with a high quality dedicated outdoor event venue. It will be used for entertainment, product launches and cocktail parties linked to exhibitions and conventions, as an additional space for exhibitions or for special occasion parties such as New Year’s Eve. All complemented by spectacular city views.

A World Class Venue for World Class Events
A new red carpet entertainment theatre will provide Sydney with an ultramodern venue and a calendar of world class events. The entertainment theatre will replace the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Sydney’s newest entertainment venue will have a seating capacity for 8,000 people, catering for all the most popular events including sport.

An innovative fan-shaped layout will bring audiences closer to the performers and make for a better entertainment experience.

Situated alongside and connected to the ICC Sydney Exhibition Centre, the new theatre will also be directly linked to Tumbalong Place, destined to be Sydney’s only true red carpet arrival spot.

900 new hotel beds for Sydney
The hotel development includes up to 900 hotel rooms directly adjacent to the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney). The proposal incorporates two hotels in one – innovatively sharing facilities but catering to upscale and mid-range markets.

While all rooms in the ICC Sydney Hotel Complex will be modern facilities with cutting edge features, providing different price points enables the hotels to cater for the premium traveller and also offer a more affordable option for delegates. This will ensure broad market appeal and attract many new visitors.

With business travellers spending on average $677 per day – over six times more each than the average tourist – it is essential that the facilities in such a diverse precinct cater to the varying needs of visitors.

The Haymarket precinct: Sydney’s new economy
Sydney will have a new neighbourhood and a vibrant community hub, with an exciting mix of commercial, residential and retail uses planned for the Haymarket precinct in the south of the site.

New streets, buildings, gathering places, shops, restaurants and bars will bring this southern section of the new precinct to life. A new IQ Hub, student accommodation and residential buildings will provide a backbone for the local economy and provide a strong customer base.

The area will be a much-needed creative quarter in the south of the city. It will revitalise the area, creating a fresh and energetic vibe, and will become one of Sydney’s ‘live, work and play’ destinations. Construction will start in early 2014. The new neighbourhood which will be home to over 2,000 people, will open in stages through to the early 2020s.

Features of the Haymarket precinct include:

New streets, buildings, gathering places, shops, restaurants and bars
Connections that join the surrounding streets and transport with new public spaces in Darling Harbour
Connections with Chinatown, Ultimo, the CBD and the south of the city
Attainable city apartment living, targeted at young professionals and students, with up to 1,400 apartments and accommodation for 1,000 students
Extension of the cultural appeal of Chinatown and the Chinese Garden
A new centre for technical innovation

The hotel design has been finalised and a DA lodged to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

The tower is now 38L and 140M (up from 35L and 128M).

ICC Hotel

The ICC Hotel will comprise a single tower totalling 31 levels of hotel
accommodation floors, with a top level club lounge and five levels of podium
including the ground floor.

The Hotel’s ‘club lounge’ will be accessible to those
guests staying in the ‘club rooms’, or entitled to access the facility due to their
hotel operator loyalty programme status.

The Hotel will provide for up to 656
keys. The final key count for the Hotel will respond to the final allocation of suites
and room types, which will be determined with the appointed hotel operator.

In the event an operator requires a higher number of suites / larger rooms, this would
be achieved by consolidating standard rooms into one suite, which could result in
an overall reduction in the number of keys.

Sydney's newest city development on the site of the Entertainment Centre and its car park will eventually be home to 1400 Lend Lease-developed apartments.
In total, there'll be seven towers ranging from 15 levels to 40, as well as three low-rise buildings.

The first DCM-designed stage release is of one, two and three-bedroom units, with interiors by SJB, in the
40-level Darling One tower,

the 25-level St Leon and

the seven-level Wirth House on the south-west part of the site.

Registrations of interest are now open, with sales due to start in a few weeks and there's a good level of interest in the project already, says Lend Lease executive project director Rob Deck.

Darling Square has been added to the city model. Will help to extend the CBD skyline to the south-west

The hotel will be operated by Accor as a Sofitel hotel. It is expected to commence construction at the end of the year and be completed in the first half of 2017. The hotel will have 616 rooms, many with sweeping views of the western skyline including Crown Towers & Barangaroo in the north
