Is Chongqing a city being built simply to challenge New york city?

The city looks modeled on Manhattan. It has buildings which are cleary based off those in NYC. I don't know the name of the building but if you google the city, you will see a building which looks like a cheap chrysler building in front of buildings which look like the world financial center.
I am all for chinese growth but this looks like a cheap imtation of NYC. Shanghai is better.

it doesn't even look like the chrysler building at all o_O. i like the skyline of chongqing a lot and i think it has its own unique appeal. other than the river that makes the landmass resemble new york a bit, there are not many similarities. a lot of the buildings in the city look typically chinese, especially the skyscrapers. When the Chaotianmen complex will be built the skyline will also have one unique outstanding complex defining it making all comparisons unnecessary.

Chongquing is an important industrial and shipping center in China, similar to NYC in the 19th and 20th century

Certainly. I mean, it can't be because... I don't know... millions of people live and work there, it's a huge industrial city and space is limited. Every penny (or yuan) invested in Chongqing ever is surely done so for the purpose of imitating a completely different city at the other side of the world. Ever since 316 BCE.

Chrysler is an icon that inspires a lot. However, I don't like the idea of building copies or new buildings in that style, because that is just not authentical.

I have no idea if the modern appearance of Chongqing is based on New York or not but if it is, so what? I mean what is the real point here?

Good question! The only purpose is to attest that Chinese people is an inferior people, that only try to copy the superior peoples of Europe and America. A bunch of racists and bigots round here.

im sorry but what? There has been no bashing of any race in this thread lol he said the building looked like the chrysler. what does that have to do with talking about a specific race being more superior then another? you need to get a breath of fresh air i think

The chinese could easily build an excact copy of Manhattan, if they wanted to. But they haven´t. Personally I don´t find any resemblance between those two cities, other than the height in constructions.
