Second tower injuncted:

Judge halts Kakaako condo tower construction

Quote:
A state judge has halted construction of a recently sold-out planned Kakaako condominium tower after finding that two state agencies failed to follow state law protecting historic places and burials.

The ruling by Circuit Court Judge Karl Sakamoto on Friday stops work on 801 South Street’s second phase known as Building B.

The ruling also exposes another failure of the State Historic Preservation Division, an agency that is responsible for enforcing state historic preservation law but has not followed its rules in recent cases involving the city’s rail line and redevelopment at Kawaiaha’o Church.

Sakamoto issued a preliminary injunction that halts construction primarily because he said an archaeological inventory survey should have been done on the tower site but was not.

[...]

It should have been halted over all the ugly! *bada bing!*

Definitely not the most beautiful towers i've seen yet. Pretty ugly to be true...

Awful project!! If those towers are in Waikiki no matter, but near the wonderful historic buildings of the heart of Honolulu is a nightmare.
They are killing the soul and charming of Honolulu.

People bash this project yet its been incredibly successful.
All 1,045 units have sold out and it is incredibly affordable. The units facing downtown will never have their view blocked and the view is beautiful. The building also has very low maintenance fees.

I live right next to the project and its filled entirely with local families. Yes, it is a very ugly building, but when you live in a place with some of the highest construction costs in the entire world, architectural features are sacrificed to keep the project affordable.

Oahu needs more projects like this. Middle/Lower-Middle class people on Oahu people can afford to live and rent here.

edit:

I live in the Royal Capitol Plaza which is the residential building next to 801 South St.
