Birmingham, England: A Very Small Slice

I travelled to Birmingham, in the English Midlands today, to attend a wedding.
The wedding was to be held at the city's Botanical Gardens in the lovely, leafy Edgbaston area of the city.

Birmingham has suffered from a poor reputation in Britain for a long time, mainly due to its position at the centre of a busy and chaotic motorway network; and due to images of a 1980s Britain, which was then quite a down-beat place; Birmingham included.
Birmingham is, however, considered to be England's second city - and from my brief visit today, certainly seems to be a city worthy of a more considered exploration; with its rejuvenated city centre and quirky new builds.

My city centre pictures are very limited and were taken out of the window of a car, as we made our way back to the motorway to head back home to Liverpool, approximately 90 miles away - north. Birmingham also lies about 70/80 miles north of London - in the English 'Midlands':

For such a large city, Birmingham rarely gets mentioned. Good photos by the way.

Yes Jane, the Botanical Gardens is certainly a gem. Another Edgbaston gem is The Barber Institute of Fine Arts with a great art collection. A must visit if you're ever in Birmingham again. Great photos.
