How the location of the library appears right now. They will start construction of the library pretty much imminently after they are done with constructing the surrounding infrastructure.

Holmen Nursery

Facts | Architects: Nordic — Office of Architecture | Location

Holmen Nursery

Nordic — Office of Architecture together with MTHøjgaard, GASA Architects and Bjørbekk & Lindheim won the competition to design Holmen Nursery at Vindern in Oslo. One of the main criteria for winning the project was functional architecture of high quality.

The project involves a complete renovation of an existing Swiss villa and construction of a new building at approximately 1890 m² alto*gether. The new nursery building contains 11 ‘bases’ spread over two floors, with the ad*ministration and management in the third floor. The Swiss villa contains two ‘bases’ and associated administration.

The nursery buildings are planned according to passive house standards. The new building will be BREEAM NOR certified to a “Very good” standard, while the Swiss villa will be upgraded to be certified to BREEAM NOR standard “Pass”.

Current guidelines for inclusive design are in*corporated into the design of both buildings and outdoor areas.

The building will be finished in summer 2014.

Slemmestad

Facts | Architects: C.F. Møller | Location

Slemmestad

Slemmestad is located on the Oslo fjord, and the settlement was centred around a now closed cement manufacturing plant. The town now forms part of Oslo's surrounding area.

The project "Fjordbyen Slemmestad" is a visionary plan to transform the area into an exclusive new coastal town. The plan combines positives from two worlds: The blue water, sun and green trees along the Oslo fjord are combined with the bustling nature of a European town. At the same time, the town's particular geology, industrial history and identity are also retained.

Slemmestad will gain a waterfront promenade, canals, tree-lined streets and squares and a mixture of residential properties, shops, offices, business and cultural and public amenities.

he town plan reinforces the street system and the current town centre will be opened up to the fjord. The quay becomes the new meeting place with eateries, the fjord hotel, as well as a library and arts centre. Bøbækken will be reopened as a blue-green pedestrian area.

The former factory premises with its tall storage silos will be maintained at the edge of a fan-shaped town plan with "Slemmestad avenue" as the main axis. A further three main streets running from the factory premises to the town centre will afford fine views and connect the surrounding nature and the industrial buildings with the town centre.

The plan includes 2,400 new residential properties with space for 4,000 new residents.

The site is localized in a transition zone between the block structure of Grünerløkka and the green landscape of the Aker River. The shape of the building is motivated by a desire to create a closure of the block towards the Aker River. The building embraces the nearby building lines and continues these. Some of the corners of the building and transitions are faceted to mute the volume effect and to give the building an independent expression. The largest of the facettes in the south direction, gives space for the canopy of an old beech.

Husebyjordet

Facts | Architects: Blå Arkitektur Landskap | Location

Husebyjordet

A small "city"/town to be built on a field at Skedsmokorset, suburban Oslo. Construction start is intended to be this August.

Masterplan:

One of the blocks - the only one that there are renders available of as far as I know.

One the buildings have been placed diagonally to provide better sunlight conditions according to the people behind it. A shame if you ask me.

^ So this is not just happening in Germany. The building seems in very good condition so the decision to tear it down is totally incomprehensible to me.

It still only a proposal and it is not approved yet, but I suspect that it will be soon. I agree that it seems like a bad idea, but it is sadly not that uncommon to demolish historic buildings here.

Man, I'm really digging the brick urbanism that Northern Europe is building. This is the future of European architecture.

The re-development of the Oslo central station area was initially intended to start construction this year, however the various departments have been fighting about the different was to develop it since 2008 which have delayed it greatly. I believe the municipality and the rail administration company have now settled on the solution with the bus terminal above the tracks, so they will be probably working towards getting it regulated and holding an architectural competition at a later stage.

Large scale projects in Norway usually meet a lot of opposition from nimbys though, so both the regulation process and the aftermath of the architectural competition may further delayed by this. I have seen no mention of a suggested date of completion, so I think it still a long way into the future, but that is the solution they will be working towards.

Christian Krohgs Gate

Facts | Architects: Helen & Hard | Location

Christian Krohgs Gate

Extension of a small brick building from 1836 situated along Akerselva in the center of Oslo. Today the building, which was an old factory, houses offices. Two apartment floors are added above the existing building and makes a new roof to the old house. This is the only part of the building which is no longer original. The proposal consists of 6 duplexes and 3 penthouses. The existing top floor will be included in the new project and become the first floor of the 6 duplexes. Offices remain on the two lower floors.

The project will give a boost to the surrounding area. The translucent cladding emerges as a chandelier which lightens up and brings a positive effect on it´s surroundings.
The extension will give the old building a new focus and together they produce a new synergy.
