. . . Designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners and Gensler, the glass-shingled façade of the 222 Second Street building will be punctuated by 22-foot high portals opening into an 8,700 square foot public space and cafe fronting Howard.

The public space and cafe will be adorned with teak wood walls, polished concrete floors, and three works by artist Frank Stella (The Pequod Meets the Delight, Riallaro, and Shards III) which are to be purchased for $1 million and fulfill the development’s 1 percent for the Arts requirement.

The Public Space, art, and café will be accessible to the general public during weekday business hours but closed to the public on weekends and in the evenings.

The above article refers to this building's "glass-shingled facade" and, in order to appreciate that, what is needed is a king-sized rendering showing the texture:

Nice, I like facade textures like this. I also like that it doesn't take away from the minimalism the design's going for.

I like the wooden walls as well.

This isn't equitable. The developers are required to honor the public art requirement, but then they limit its accessibility to about 30% of the time.
People who don't work or do business there can't see it after work or on weekends, when they are most likely to have the time. The owners should be required to make the art viewable at least during the hours that the three nearby museums are open.

What you say is true, but I have to counter that the only occasions when I've ever personally used these "public open spaces" in downtown high rises was as a place to have lunch and the rendering suggests the lobby will have a number of large tables suitable for that purpose.

And we have glass (which looks fantastic, by the way):

That glass is awesome! Looks very sleek.
I like the shingled placement, it's a subtle but effective detail.

This looks like a contemporary version of a mid century building.

The other thing that makes it look great is it's frameless--like solid slabs of thick glass "lapstraked" on the building.

It does, but even though it seems rather "fat" and clunky in terms of massing, it will provide the sort of very large open floor plates desired by tech companies in this part of town (Second St seems a hub of game designers especially).

I don't even really hate the building. There are less interesting glass towers out there. #doomedview #vscocam #j6 by bsdfm, on Flickr
