Very nice design. It blends in very well in the existing block.

Edit: The existing tower just became one of my favorites. Beautiful structure

No, the existing tower, which is 641', is getting a little brother

And speaking of height, the height listed in the thread title for this tower is wrong. It'll be either 495' or 541' depending on what source you use. It's been hard to get a definitive answer on which number is correct, but in any case it'll be taller than 450'.

Until we know for sure we'll split the difference.

Fair enough, though I'm thinking the 541' number is probably correct. That's the number given by the architects, and it seems to match when comparing the height to the taller tower in the renderings. I'm guessing the shorter 495' number comes from planning, which seems to list the height to the roof of any given building, while leaving out any additional height from mechanical boxes/crowns/parapets/spires. So I'm thinking it's 495' to the roof, with a 46' crown on top.

Anyways, here are some new pics, from viewguysf at SSP:

These buildings are interesting from an engineering standpoint. Note the oval tank-like structure on top of the existing building. It actually is a large water tank which functions as a seismic damper to minimize "sway" of the building in earthquakes. The renderings of the new, shorter building don't seem to have such a device. Perhaps it wasn't deemed necessary due to the lower height. I haven't seen anything written on the subject addressing the shorter new tower but there was extensive discussion at the time of construction of the older, taller tower.

Looks like there's maybe 10 more floors to go before it's topped out.

However, it bares repeating that this and it's big bro' sit atop 100' high Rincon Hill (as will 45 Lansing and 399 Fremont when built) and so appear roughly that much taller in the skyline as compared to other buildings in the FiDi flats.

Topped out:

Work begins on Rincon Hill's next skyscraper

Quote:
It took 366 trucks carrying 3,294 cubic yards of concrete, but the foundation for Rincon Hill’s next residential tower is now in place.

With the first residents moving into into the 754-unit NEMA apartment tower at 14 10th St., Crescent Heights is going full speed ahead on its next San Francisco highrise: a 400-foot tower at 45 Lansing that will add 320 units to the growing Rincon Hill neighborhood.

On Saturday night San Francisco-based contractor Build Group completed an 21-hour mat pour for the tower, which is being designed by HKS. The pour started at 6 p.m. on Saturday night and didn’t wrap up until 2:30 p.m. the next day. Mat sections ranged from five to seven feet thick to 14-feet thick in the shear walls around the core of the building. Over 120 people were on-site throughout the pour including field staff, off-site support, and truck drivers. Concrete batches came from two plants, one in South San Francisco and one in Oakland. Build Group provided coffee, bagels, and workers provided free “concrete lessons” to curious neighbors to keep them informed of what was happening.

The tower is one of three residential buildings under development on Rincon Hill at the moment, and two others are expected to start soon. At One Rincon Hill, Principal Real Estate Investors have topped off a 52-story, 299 unit second phase of that project. Equity Residential is getting ready to start work on 340-350 Fremont St., a 348-unit, $110 million skyscraper. And UDR is gearing up to start 399 Fremont. a 452-unit, $115 million luxury rental tower.
