This thread should be renamed - "Silesia - the Land of Resurrected Country Houses"

Yes I see what you mean, Tim. These are all restored.

Okay, here is an old manor house in the Jelenia Gora valley which was not restored.
One of the "dying country houses" situated in the village of Barcinek.

Talkin about the Jelenia Gora Valley / Hirschberger Tal... Can anyone suggest a comprehensive tour of very nice and imposing castles/manors there? I'd like to see 4 or 5 larger ones and maybe 3 smaller ones. Not the sober (neo)classicist ones, but the posh ones.

If you can share a map for this or list some highlights around Jelenia Gora and south(west) of Wroclaw, I'd be very happy! I'll be in the region this summer for 10 days.

^ I'm especially looking forward to see this renovation completed,
it has the potential to become some kind of "Neuschwanstein of the Jelenia Gora Valley"!

Unfortunately in this case there are probably unsolved legal problems with succesion after dead german owner, that is why the palace is still degraded.

I thought all German property ownership in the areas given to Poland was forfeited without compensation after WWII, no?

I actually googled it. It seems the palace was indeed state-owned. Until 1994 that is when it was sold to a German NGO. Said NGO ceded to exist shortly after that and the ownership was transferred to one of the managers. Unfortunately, this manager, who also happened to be a German citizen, passed away two years ago.

No, if there is no inheritor or if he renounces the inheritance, the Palace would probably become public property of Poland. Either the State or voivodeship. Though I do not know how law positions are in Poland. In Germany, if an object has no rightful owner or the inheritor refuses to enter the inheritance, the respective state state becomes the owner. It is quite a problem in Saxony, because many descendants of people who moved west renounce their inheritance of mostly ruined buildings.

Probably the municipality authorities must prove to the court that the owner left the property without the heirs.
