Maybe, if they use alabaster stone...or some similar material.
Maybe they'll use slabs of onyx.
I've only seen these in interior design.

the exterior looks completely uninviting during the day. It clashes completely with the greenery of the park, hence why they rendered the building in fall in the video - so the green colors of spring and summer are gone. Still, i'll wait to see mock-ups for my final opinion on the matter.

Nice. Sleek, simple, yet high quality and monolithic. Nice ceiling too. I thought it would end up typical blue glass spandrel.

The beautiful Beinecke Library by Gordon Bunshaft has similar marble. It looks gorgeous from the inside.

I like the aerial view.

I've seen that material in a hotel in my town, it was used in the lobby and it looked absolutely amazing.

I think I like it...

Importantly, its shape doesn't compete with the transportation hub (the WTC "piece de resistance"). Its shape also fits in well with its surroundings, but the cutaway entrance adds a dramatic detail to make it interesting.

Also, the facade brings some warmth to a complex dominated by glass and steel (not to mention at night, it sounds like it will be a marvel to look at as shadows move along the surface).

If this is what's built I'm happy

Someone on Yimby said this and I agree completely:

"I wish they could have at least trimmed and shaved off a portion of the top of the building that can compliment the sloped angle of the front entrance so that it doesn't look extremely monolithic with just a random slice at the bottom and on only one side of the building."

Yuck. Looks like a giant dice that was hit by an axe. All it needs is dots on the sides.

It does have a dot on one side (the top), which is probably my least favorite feature. But at least you won't see it from the ground.

I don't hate it but at the end of the day it's just a tricked out box. The flexibility of the performance spaces is the most interesting aspect.

From the internal renders, it doesn't look like it will have a direct connection to the mall – big mistake. It's also funny that they said it would be shorter than the original plans, yet keep the same footprint, even though the exact opposite happened.

I like that the entrance and stairs face the memorial. It's going to be another nice resting spot for some New Yorkers grabbing a quick lunch or tourists gazing over the memorial.

Does the cube glow at night? Like is it competing with the base of 1WTC?

Yes, it will appear to glow at night thanks to the facade and shadows will be moving around as paterons move around the place. The lighting of it will probably be very similar to the Greek Church.
