I don't get it either. Virtually any other use would pay for itself: condos, a hotel, boutique office, or some combination thereof. Heck, I'm still pretty partial to the idea of a vertical business school campus that the top programs could lease to have an outpost on Wall Street (not that anyone's asking my development advice.)

Moreover, a tower would better complete the "spiral" of the site plan, assuming that 5 WTC ever sees the light of day.

Can anyone explain why this isn't being talked about? Does the site just not have the development rights to support a skyscraper or highrise here?

..I guess the PA made a deal with Silverstein to keep unobstructed views for his 7WTC offices...
More seriously,i don't call for a tall building there and prefer to keep the site airy and solemn.

Yeah, I get that impulse. It just seems like some kind of profit-generating compromise would help actually get the PAC built and the site finished.

You know, they could maybe have it both ways by using setbacks, stepping back programmatically from the memorial while rising and narrowing towards Vesey street. Like:

PAC in the base | setback | a few floors of boutique office | setback | a few more floors of hotel.

That might give a highrise a little more human scale and allow you to preserve the airiness, not to mention the view corridor up Greenwich/Broadway.

Well, they cleared most of the containers, however, I think they need to open at least one other entrance before they can close the temporary PATH access.

Has anyone info about further entry openings? I guess either the 2 WTC entrance or the western entrance to the Oculus need to open before they can remove the temporary station.

Well in December, like I said before, the plan will be released in spring.

But it's spring now, still more waiting...

Ronald Perelman Donates $75 Million for Arts Complex at World Trade Center Site
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/30/ar...site.html?_r=0

Quote:
Less than a year since he stepped down as the chairman of Carnegie Hall after clashing with its staff, Ronald O. Perelman, the billionaire businessman, announced Wednesday that he was donating $75 million to revive plans to build a performing arts center at the World Trade Center site.

His donation immediately catapulted the long-stalled performing arts center, one of the last major pieces of unfinished business at the World Trade Center site, from aspirational to achievable and places him among a new generation of power brokers and billionaires who are reshaping — and renaming — the cultural infrastructure of New York. In recognition of his gift, the new theater complex, which will sit on one of the most emotionally resonant and most visited spots in the city, will be named for Mr. Perelman.

“I think that this is a project that must happen,” Mr. Perelman said in an interview, adding that he had been drawn to it by the vision of the role that art could play at the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and in the continuing rebuilding of the area. “It is more than just a pure artistic center to serve a community. It is that, but at the same time it’s much more than that.”
...
The news that the performing arts center finally had a lead gift, and was likely to get built, is sure to cheer downtown residents who have long seen it as a priority, said Catherine McVay Hughes, the chairwoman of Community Board 1. “The community that stayed was steadfast in supporting a cultural component,” she said. “It was important that something alive gets created here, right here, at the World Trade Center site.”

Lol, this is such an FU move to Carnegie Hall. I'm not a fan of Perelman but whatever, I'm glad it's finally gaining traction.

Kinda tacky to throw your name on it. I know its a very generous gift. But a lot of other individuals and companies donated to the 9/11 memorial and you don't see their names plastered all over the plaza and museum.

Ya but he donated $75 Million Bucks not an insignificant amount of money. A family member works in non profit capital campaigning and once people give over a million dollars it's pretty contingent on you naming stuff after them
