ILOILO CONVENTION CENTER

Inspired by the Dinagyang Festival and the paraw (double outrigger sailtboats used by Ilonggos), the Iloilo Convention Center rises at Megaworld Corp.'s Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. The PhP450-million edifice is through the effort of Sen. Franklin Drilon, the Department of Tourism and Megaworld Corp. The senator will allot PhP 250 million of his PDAF for the realization of this project while the remaining will be funded by TIEZA (Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority). Megaworld Corp. donated 1.7 hectares of it's 54 hectare property in the old Iloilo airport for this project.

Designed by Ilonggo Architect Willy V. Coscolluella, the design features 15 exteriors fins that evoke the beauty of Iloilo's paraw sailboats. The glass facade will feature abstract designs reflecting Iloilo's vibrant Dinagyang festival - printed with ceramic paint laminated in glass. Indigenous stones will be used predominantly in teh exterior and interior design while a green wall will line the side of the building.

The main convention hall hall is 2,880 sqm equipped with operable walls that can be subdivided into smaller areas. It can accommodate around 3,700 guests in its main convention hall at the ground level. It will have have 8 function rooms at the second level with plus a kitchen designed to international standards.

From SkyScraperCity

It will have state-of-the-art audio and video equipment in all these venues. A museum/souvenir shop is likewise located at the second level.

ILOILO CITY CENTER UNVEILING

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, Cong. Jerry P. Treñas, and Senator Franklin Drilon graced the Unveiling of Iloilo City Center (ICC) by Gaisano Capital Group in Diversion Road, Mandurriao, Iloilo City Jan. 18.

“Unveiling this new project sends a clear message to all of us - it is a message that makes crystal the confidence of investors in Iloilo City’s positive business climate; it is a message that clearly says the people of the City and Province of Iloilo will benefit immensely from the impressive complex of new facilities forthcoming in this place; it is a message that loudly proclaims public and private partnership is alive and well in Iloilo City,” Mayor Jed said.

The P2-billion 16-hectare ICC, a mixed-use commercial and residential complex will host a 40-storey Gaisano Tower, mall, trade hall and convention center, church and offices.

The new business hub will also feature a 10-meter canal encompassing half of the property which will become a tourism attraction, said Carlos Legara, vice-president of Gaisano Capital Group for Western Visayas.

Groundbreaking is set to take place in mid-2013 for the development plan expected to be completed in two to three years.

The INTERNATIONAL AVENUE

It's More Fun In Iloilo
Because We're BOOMING Non Stop.
ILOILO means BUSINESS. Invest Now!

Western Visayas to experience Global-Estate Resorts, Inc.'s 'township' lifestyle

Something new is coming to the shores of Western Visayas – the 'township' lifestyle.

This 'township' lifestyle brought by Global-Estate Resorts, Inc. (GERI) to the Sta. Barbara Heights development will follow after the “live-work-play” concept pioneered by its sister company, Megaworld.

Sta. Barbara Heights is a mixed-use development that will consist of residential spaces, a town center, an IT park and various establishments. The 170-hectare property, which is the first of its kind on its region, is poised to propel Iloilo into a future 'central business district'.

“As pioneers of the township concept in Metro Manila, we would like to revolutionize how our fellow Filipinos live in other parts of the country, starting with Sta. Barbara Heights in Iloilo,” says Noy Mercado, GERI's Head of Sales and Marketing.

The residential estates signify the 'live' component of the township. All are residential lots, complemented by Sta. Barbara's expansive rolling hills and natural lake as backdrop. Topnotch amenities include a multi-purpose clubhouse with a 260 square-meter swimming pool and tennis and basketball courts, children's parks, a picnic area and other activity areas.

The 'work' and 'play' element, on the other hand, will be incorporated in the upcoming Iloilo International Business Park. This six-hectare park will be home to an IT cyberpark, BPO centers and various office strips. Future residents will benefit the ease of access with the 2.7-kilometer Iloilo International Avenue that runs through the township, bringing the nearby Iloilo International Airport closer. Adjacent to Sta. Barbara Heights are the historical landmarks of the Iloilo Golf Course and Country Club as well as the Santa Barbara Church and Convent, to the advantage of its future tourists.

Other projects on the pipeline for the development include commercial strips, food chains, hotels, an international school and a football field, with the aim of fusing business and pleasure into one hotspot.

“By putting the 'live', 'work' and 'play' aspects side by side, we are bringing a new lifestyle that's tailor-made for the fast-paced lifestyle of the Ilonggos,” Mercado adds.

Multi-billion investments to spark developments in Iloilo
By: Francis Allan L. Angelo

MEGAWORLD founder Andrew Tan has a soft spot for Iloilo the reason why his company is bullish in investing in the city and province.

Narzalina Lim, president of Iloilo Economic Development Foundation (ILED), said Tan altered the timetable for the Iloilo Business Park project on the 54-hectare old Iloilo airport lot in Mandurriao, Iloilo City just to jumpstart developments in Iloilo City.

Lim is one of the main negotiators who convinced Tan to donate 1.7 hectares of its Mandurriao property for the construction of the P450-million Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) proposed by Senator Franklin Drilon.

“Senator Drilon wanted to put up the convention center and we decided to work together on the project. I sent emails to Kevin Tan and Jericho Go of Megaworld and we were able to meet Mr. Tan over breakfast,” Lim said.

Lim added that Tan did not hesitate in donating the lot for the ICC project “because he has a soft spot for Iloilo and he saw the potential of the convention center.”

“Mr. Tan intimated to us that his first out-of-town assignment when they were starting in business was Panay, particularly Iloilo. Since then, he already saw the potentials of our place and that’s why he is very eager to invest here,” she added.

The ICC project was to convince Tan to speed up his plans for Iloilo, especially the Iloilo Business Park development.

Megaworld is supposed to begin its mall component after 2016 but Tan decided to move it two years earlier in time for the completion of the ICC.

“So in 2014, we will have the ICC, the Richmonde Hotel and the mall. These three components are interrelated and Mr. Tan was excited to push forward with his projects,” Lim said.

Aside from the 108-room Richmonde Hotel and Tower, Megaworld will also put up the Marriot Courtyard Hotel on its Iloilo property and other commercial and leisure areas.

Megaworld is now the biggest single investor in Iloilo what with its P25-billion Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao and its P43-billion Sta. Barbara Heights township project in Sta. Barbara town.

Sta. Barbara Heights is a mixed-use development that will consist of residential spaces, a town center, an IT park and various establishments. The 170-hectare property, which is the first of its kind on its region, is poised to propel Iloilo into a future “central business district.” It is developed by Global-Estate Resorts, Inc. (GERI), a subsidiary of Alliance Global Group, Inc., (AGI) one of the Philippines' largest conglomerates which is also headed Andrew Tan.

Lim said the presence of Megaworld in Iloilo will also inspire other investors in the hotel and BPO sectors to catch up.

“Existing hotels will also have to be competitive as we see the outpouring of investments in the city and province.

ILED is an umbrella organization of business groups and leaders in Iloilo who aim to bring investors to the city and province.

Megaworld allots P25 B for Iloilo project
By Jennifer Rendon (The Philippine Star) | Updated January 14, 2013 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines - Outside of Metro Manila, Iloilo stands as the center of business expansion for real estate giant Megaworld Corp.

And why Iloilo? “It’s quite personal,” said Maricor Manlangit, Megaworld’s first vice president for Strategic Planning. “Iloilo is very close to the heart of our chairman, Andrew Tan. This is the first province that he visited while he was still working.”

“At that time, he fell in love with the province. I think it struck him that much that the acquisition of the property is very sentimental to him,” Manlangit added.

In a press conference Saturday, Manlangit said Megaworld is projected to pour in P25 billion for the entire development of the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City.

Harold Geronimo, director for Strategic Marketing and Communications, added that Iloilo is located in a very strategic area and in the middle of Western Visayas.

“So, we are looking at a very promising location and our entry into this region has been in the works for the longest time.”

Geronimo said that Iloilo, being the regional center in Region 6, is the best place to start and expand Megaworld’s business outside of Metro Manila.

“We already have a project in Cebu and in Western Visayas, we’ll be starting in Iloilo. Apart from that, we’ve seen how Iloilo has expanded with the introduction of international flights,” he said.

Right now, there are direct flights from Iloilo to Singapore and Hong Kong and vice versa. There are plans to open direct flights to India soon.

“We really see the potential of Iloilo as a tourist area. People are coming to see to Iloilo,” Geronimo added.

In a few years, Megaworld executives excitedly announced that Western Visayas will soon see the rise of a boom town, as Megaworld construct a boutique hotel and commercial district a lifestyle mall, business process outsourcing (BPO) office buildings, and a convention center in the anticipated Iloilo Business Park.

Roland Tiongson, SAVP for Business Leasing and Development Group, said that at least 25,000 jobs will be up for grabs for the BPOs alone.

There would be more for construction, hotel and convention center staff, and mall personnel.

“As we extend out ‘live-work-play’ formula to Iloilo, we’re expecting a breakthrough in Western Visayas in terms of business and tourism, which will be brought by the world-class developments that Megaworld has always been known for,” shared Jericho Go, Megaworld’s Vice President for Business Leasing and Development Group.

Aligning the expansive Megaworld Boulevard, the 54-hectare mixed-use development will house the Megaworld Center Mall, Festive Walk, the international brand Marriott Courtyard Hotel, Richmonde Hotel, and the Iloilo Convention Center.

The Megaworld Center Mall will be Iloilo’s first upscale and first stand alone mall outside of Metro Manila.

A 9.7-hectare subdivision lot, on the other hand, is allotted for the boutique hotel and commercial district, which will be one of the highlights in the Iloilo Business Park.

“We’ve been talking lots of interested business owners who want to operate within this exciting new district of the township. This is going to be exclusive only to the privileged few,” Manlangit said.

Iloilo Convention Center, on the other hand, is a joint venture between Megaworld and the local government. It will be built on a 1.7 hectare lot to be funded collective by Senator Franklin Drilon’s annual priority development assistance fund, the Department of Tourism, and the Tourism Infrastructure and the Enterprise Zone Authority.

The convention center, touted as Iloilo’s largest, is designed for big conferences, exhibitions, and trade fairs.

Like Megaworld’s other townships, the business park will be based on the company’s pioneering ‘live-work-play’ concept. The winning formula has propelled its Manila projects – Eastwood City, Forbestown Center, McKinley Hill, and Newport City – to success.

P25-B Megaworld project goes full blast
January 14, 2013 12:07

By: Tara Yap

MEGAWORLD CORP. believes the time is ripe to go full blast in developing the P25-billion Iloilo Business Park on the old Iloilo airport property.

“It’s a matter of right timing,” said Maricor Manlangit, Megaworld first vice president for strategic planning.

Megaworld acquired the 54-hectare old Iloilo Airport property in Mandurriao, Iloilo City last 2007 from the Philippine government for P1.2 billion.

“There was no rush at that time. Megaworld was focusing on the developments in Metro Manial,” Manlangit explained as to their pacing of the project.

Manlangit said the opening of direct international flights at the new Iloilo Airport last November 2012 signaled the robust growth of the city and province of Iloilo.

Manlangit added that the groundbreaking of the P450-million Iloilo Convention Center, which is also standing in its airport property, complements the international flights.

Megaworld is now confident that its Iloilo Business Park is ready for world-class hotels, shopping centers, restaurants, an information technology (IT) park, and a residential area.

Megaworld expects Richmonde Hotel Iloilo and Richmonde Tower, which will cater to entrepreneurs and business processes outsourcing companies, to be operational by 2015.

The Iloilo Business Park will also feature the upscale Megaworld Center Mall, the 2-km shopping district Festive Walk and the international brand Marriott Courtyard.

In the next several years, the Iloilo Business Park is expected to generate 35,000 to 40,000 jobs. The biggest employment will be generated by the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry with about 25,000 jobs.

The Iloilo Business Park has been classified as an economic zone by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in January 2010.
