Thanks!

When waiting for a bus near the Da Vinci College, you can have a seat in a regular bus stop shelter or in a... giant egg

...or in...

The Grote Kerk in a far distance.

Quote:
The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe-Kerk ('Our Dear Lady Church') or simply the Grote Kerk ('Big Church') was built between 1285 and 1470. The 65-meter tower contains a carillon with 67 bells including one weighing 9830 kilos, making it the heaviest bell in the Netherlands.

Hah, very nice! That large egg sculpture that doubles as a shelter is something unique and creative, it makes me want to imagine if I have that shape instead as a bus stop rather than the typical rectangular shelter with glass... And that large skull sculpture next to yet another bus stop looks intriguing! I must say: if I develop a bus network, I'll make sculptures like those so that passengers will instead ask for "do you stop at the skull sculpture?" rather than "does this bus stop at (street A) and (street B)?"

Great work again, my friend! Keep those wonderful images coming!

Last Sunday I took advantage of the great weather, and decided to explore the part of the town I don't usually go to.
Here are some pictures I shot while taking a (very) long walk.

I was amazed when I saw this huge thing in the distance, but had not a slightest idea what it actually was...

When I approached it, it turned out to be a full-scale replica of... Noah's Ark. I certainly did not expect to see such a thing in Dordrecht!

Here is an interesting article about the Ark, I found on the Web:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...Dordrecht.html

While I was heading back home, I spotted this wall:

Few minutes later I came across a beautiful Mercedes Benz, and I couldn't resist to take a picture (or two) of it...

Surprisingly, two other very nice MBs from the '80s/'90s were parked nearby.

A quite big music festival took place in Dordrecht two weeks ago (Big Rivers). From Friday to Sunday around 100 bands (representing all kinds of music genres) played on 11 stages. The Dutch love (and know how)to have fun...

Quotation - pretty decent Dutch Status Quo tribute band.

My personal highlight of the festival - very good, and energetic concert of a Californian punk rock band Swingin' Utters.

Thanks for the nice pictures! My mother's parents and a several of her siblings lived in Dordrecht, so I used to visit the town quite a lot some 30 years ago. I haven't really visited it since though. So it's great to see that it seems to be doing quite alright. Did I mention I made an oil painting of one of the old 'havens' with the big bell tower on the background when I was around 15 years old?

Some interesting facts you might not yet know:
- Dordrecht is the oldest city in the former county of 'Holland'. So it predates cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Leiden, Gouda, Delft, etc..
- The church is the northernmost church from the gothic era with an all stone roof in the Netherlands.

Dordrecht is located around 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) away from Rotterdam, and this can be seen not only on the local road signs.

I was passing by this place a week (or so) after taking the picture above, and I discovered the graffiti had been removed...

Nice thread. Definitely a place I would like to visit. I loved those old signs built into the wall. What do they say?

Thank you. I've been exploring Dordrecht for months now, and I haven't gotten bored yet. The town has so many faces, plus it seems there are lots and lots of hidden treasures to be explored in Dordrecht...
One of them were those brick walls I found accidentally the other day...

And here's what the signs on the walls say:

nijverheid = industry
steun = support
onderwijs = education

bouwkunde = engineering

suiker (?) industrie = sugar industry

electro techniek = electrical engineering

scheeps bouwkunde = marine engineering

Nice pictures. This is probably one of the most typical Dutch cities!
