Schloss

There is a "Schloss", located in downtown, near the River Rhein.

First time viewing yet another fabulous and excellent collection of yours (from Stuttgart), and I truly sense that you have placed a lot of heart and soul to bring out Mannheim's true character as a wonderful small German city. From the Schloss to the pedestrian streets, Town Hall to the trams, it is something I have not expected to be well-preserved while embracing modernity in a subtle pace (from pharmacies to boutiques to even an ice cream parlor)... and while the streets may be narrow as with many older, well-established communities, the open spaces (along with unique sculptures) truly break the seemingly endless number of well-maintained, low-rise structures that uniquely define Mannheim. Certainly, it is a city I would consider visiting myself, not just for the sleek trams, but also the wonderful streetscapes and magnificent old structures that make it special.

You seem to never cease to amaze me with your showcases... Excellent work! I'll keep coming back to this collection!

Except for Vienna it's the largest tram network in Europe outside Russia actually (although some of it is regulated at light rail technically), about on par but slightly larger than Berlin or Sofia.

I lived in Heidelberg 1991 - 2002 and was often in "Monnem" , visiting my girl friend every weekend and sometimes every day.People in Heidelberg told me in my early time , "stay away from Mannheim..."ugly" ,"unsafe "... and so on.
But I liked Mannheim more and more. Many areas looks like 12-20 years ago,
but some points changed: Augustaanlage with a walkway in the middle and the Carl Benz memorial are new for me . Nice to see it ,thank you.

Whoa, I nearly missed commenting on Mannheim's Central Train Station (and I will comment on the others in the process)!

So, a few words: Mannheim Hauptbanhof (HB) looks reminiscent to the older, grander railway stations I've seen in other cities, albeit that one may be smaller. But, truly, it really looks more than functional to me as I see a lot of trams, platforms, buses... you name it! It is a truly connected station where I can easily swap between trams, buses, and trains in one fall swoop, and it is a very convenient place to meet friends to get around the city! Indeed, it is one great place that I would look for when I start my walk around town.

Those structures near a bridge crossing the River Neckar look interesting, in which a juxtaposition of old brick buildings and a glass modern tower (the MVV) combining together to make a truly urban feel of the community. With the river flowing close by (I can even see a small ship in one of them with an arch bridge on the background), that creates a natural sense of beauty in Mannheim that I believe works very well (although it seems to be a little quiet to me, given that not a lot of people on either side of the waterway strolling around)... yet, observing the tram and rail lines, I can immediately associate Mannheim as an important industrial (if not also commercial) city because the river and the rail line go hand in hand that bring a sense of connectivity to the rest of the region, if not Germany.

And the "Neckartuferbebauung-Nord" towers look truly interesting... those seem to shape like a letter Y in the process if I look at it from above! I can see though quite an interesting set of windows in most of the units, with shades of blue, yellow, and orange being predominant... contrasting those utilitarian (but unique) apartment blocks with the large expanse of open space and greenery in the background, indeed, that's urban planning I'd love to explore for myself because it gives residents a sense of calm amidst a busy (and crowded) community.

Splendid images again, my friend!

Cars too. There's an underground garage under that square in front of the station with a (free) drop-off/drive-through zone if you just want to pick someone up or drop them off. With direct access to the underground level of the station.
