MphasiS Mangalore BPO Facility Commences Operations

Mangalore facility to contribute to growing volume of MphasiS’ BPO business

Mangalore, 8 April, 2005

The MphasiS BFL Group, a leading provider of IT and BPO solutions commenced operations of its Business Process Outsourcing facility in Mangalore. With an initial investment of Rs 70 crore, the MphasiS Mangalore facility will provide contact centre services for several Fortune 500 companies. The total employee strength at this facility is expected to reach 3,000 in the initial stage of operations and will witness significant growth over the next few years.

This is the company’s fourth facility in India, in addition to the two existing facilities in Bangalore and one each in Pune and Tijuana in Mexico. MphasiS’ BPO business recorded revenues of Rs 74.48 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2004 as against Rs 48.32 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, representing a consistent growth rate and demonstrating an increasing share of the BPO business, in the company’s overall revenues.

Speaking at the official inauguration of the facility, Jerry Rao, Chairman & CEO, MphasiS BFL said, “Today is a very significant time in the history of MphasiS. When we first commenced operations in India, our goal was to strive to be the best in our field. Since then, there has been no looking back and MphasiS has grown from strength to strength. MphasiS which has over the years grown from an Indian born IT company, into a leading global IT player, through the opening of this facility, has demonstrated that inspite of its global reach and spread, India still remains an important base for MphasiS’ business strategy and Mangalore in particular will serve as an important nerve centre for our global business operations.”

“We expect this facility to generate significant employment in the city and play a crucial role in the economic development of Mangalore. We are extremely pleased to have set up operations in Mangalore and look forward to a consistent growth rate here,” he added.

Bhaskar Menon, President, MphasiS BPO said, “Mangalore was chosen as the location for our next BPO facility because of the opportunities it offers. After a significant amount of research and study, and keeping in mind the significant changes taking place in the BPO industry, Mangalore with its potential human capital, high literacy rate of the region, superior educational facilities, English language skills and advanced technology, was the natural choice to set up our next base.”

India born Global IT Company MphasiS chooses Heritage Structure in picturesque Mangalore for BPO Facility

MphasiS BPO - Mangalore is located in Tech.BAY and is only 3 kms. from the city centre. This heritage structure is a blend of British, Portuguese and Canarese styles and has been bought over from Peirce Leslie India (A UK subsidiary), a 130 year old business house, which was engaged
in the cashew/coffee processing business.

Surrounded by expansive green areas and dotted with impressive European style bungalows, the facility has retained all of its original elegance and charm while at the same time will provide for an atmosphere conducive to high technology
Business Process Outsourcing services.

Tech Bay

Mangalore Tech Bay is Tanglin's second development project and is located in the Central Business District of Jeppu, Mangalore. The campus is situated on the banks of the estuary formed by the backwaters of the river Netravati and the Arabian Sea, presenting a picturesque view.

Mangalore is known for its enterprising people, its innumerable educational institutions and a vast multitude of educated youth in and around its geography, a good medical infrastructure, excellent transport system (Rail, Road, Air and Water) and a flourishing industry. Also, high bandwidth connectivity is being planned for Mangalore.

All these this augur well for the development of the IT/IT enabled services sector in Mangalore The Tech Bay campus is spread over 20 acres and houses industrial units covering an area of 250,000 sft each. These are ready for any suitable modification to facilitate early occupancy.

In Phase-I of the Tech Bay project, a 100,000 sq ft space is being renovated to house a call center of 500 seats; Ibackoffice, a GTV company. Plans of equipping the campus with all modern amenities and state of the art features are well underway.

The campus is accessible by feeder roads connecting to the National Highways and the city center. An additional access via the river is facilitated by the Jeppu Ferry Point which is adjacent to the campus facilitates. Also adjacent to the tech campus is the prestigious Mangalore Club. Being in the heart of Mangalore, residential facilities are aplenty and in very close proximity.

sorry it came blank. It might come back later.I have three JPG's on how best to manage Mangalore's sudden leap in development now on par with the big city league. The first and foremost is the traffic management as this city now has the highest density of cars in the country.(Cars to population ratio).Infact there are a few proposals by various car dealers to have their models displayed at the Airport. Mangalore recored the second highest increase in rise in Domestic passenger traffic in India last year and expected to rise this year.

Ajay, I'm a bit skeptic on these statistics . I have no doubt about the potential of a city like Mangalore but these numbers are a bit far fetched... Mangalore airport too could grow only if tourism picks up in the south canara and North Malabar. At present the major chunk of the passengers using Mangalore airport are Gulf bound.
