it for sure would have a big effect on construction, yet i wouldn't say all projects would restart, it would help, but not lead to another boom as big as the one Dubai had.

Dubai will never experience another construction boom like it once had. The Brits and Germans were responsible for the majority of foreign investment in Dubai. Following the economic collapse of 2008/2009, they have since wised up and realized that investing their own countries offers greater investment security - hence why London is experiencing of the largest construction booms in its history. In the event of another economic collapse, Alpha financial cities such as London and New York risk the least chance instability and the most expedient chance for recovery.

I'd say that if Dubai won the Expo, they would probably start building something. But in such a scenario, more skyscrapers aren't really what's needed. They already have a landmark tower, no need to build another. They have plenty of tall residential buildings, which sure would be nice to look at during an expo, but building more of them wouldn't be much beneficial overall. And tall office buildings, tall hotels or tall anything, really, cost a lot of money, which means an even bigger required return of investment - way more than you could hope to milk out of the year(?) such an expo lasts.

If Dubai were to win the expo, I'd expect a little surge of smaller hotels and perhaps a mall or two, instead of those huge, risky megaprojects with multi-decade ROI periods. Dubai has enough of those to last a while. If the government were to invest in anything major, it would be the (reportedly under-dimensioned) sewage system, and possibly public transport. Measures to make it easier to be a tourist in the city.

The British and the Germans were NOT the biggest investors in Dubai's RE market, who told you that? ... oh, and the construction boom in central London actually is mostly related to Middle Eastern investors, both in terms of developments (Qatar) and property purchases

looks like the tower we also had models before off. i am not sure why there is so few information, but slowly it gets too much to ignore it and we might need to open a thread for it. i wonder what our big Dubaian forumers think about opening a thread for that building.

Let's wait till EMAAR launches that project ... although, considering the number of towers they have launched lately, it might take some time

So instead of 1 x 1 000 we get 2 x 500. I just hope we won't get 250 x 4

Just joking, I guess.

These will be 2 goodlooking twin towers. Design is always more important than height.

Emaar Properties has issued a statement announcing that it currently has no plans to build a new tower that is taller than the Burj Khalifa. In the statement, a spokesperson said Emaar denies circulating media reports that the company has another megatall tower in the works.

"In a television conversation with CNN during April this year, company chairman Mohamed Alabbar discussed tall towers and modern technologies that make it possible for Dubai to build another tall building," the statement explained. "The media reports used this April conversation as a source which does not spell a firm decision. Emaar, however, does not have any current plans to develop a building taller than Burj Khalifa in Dubai."

I forgot to ask when people were talking about Dubai Towers being cancelled (a damn shame), has Burj Al Alam ever been officially cancelled or is it on hold indefinitely?

Let's not get carried away, or we'll end up with 2,000 doghouses or 50,000 ant hills.
