This is exaggerated. Qataris financed the Shard and One Hyde Park, and there's Middle Eastern finance behind the Heron Tower and DP World's London Gateway container port. However none of London's other major projects are Middle Eastern financed so far as I'm aware.

Individual Middle Easterners investing in prime London real estate are nothing new, and they probably account for a lower percentage now than before (the fastest growth over the last decade has been from Russians, Chinese, and Europeans seeking a safe haven investment). Also, rich Arab investors normally buy existing properties in prestigious areas of west London. It's Far Eastern investors who are snapping up thousands of new build apartments off-plan, and effectively financing London's big new housing developments.

Britons were among the largest investors in Dubai before the crash, and Britons are by far the largest group of Western expats there. The links are strong, and will remain so. However I'm sure the lion's share of interest will always come more locally, from the Middle East and South Asia. Dubai has already partially recovered, but it no longer has the exciting sheen of the years before 2008, and investors will now ask more penetrating questions about return on investment. The danger of Dubai's "build-it-and-they'll come" development model, is excessive supply relative to actual demand, meaning poor capital gains and low rental yields.

^ Emiratis are not foreign investors at all!!

This article says Brits are the largest investors outside the Gulf after Indians (ie ahead of Russians or Pakistanis).

Personally I think Dubai is a bad investment, for these reasons...

So a new upcoming district in Dubai with a landmark in the centre and high rises around like Downtown Dubai. Cool design! They will probably be the tallest twin towers in the world!

But after completion, the district will be the third city centre in Dubai...

Oh my god! Biggest project since Downtown Dubai!

And there will be more supertalls, if they want to balance out the skyline

The overall plan looks better than what I've seen before in Dubai. Some lowrises too and some good real streets instead of just skyscraper + parking lot after each other.

How long would this take to complete? I guess around 20 years?

Emaar is involved into this, they also manage and supervise the downtown development which should be done in 2020-22 (~15-18 years from start to completion). So if downtown takes 15 years to complete, 20 to 25 years sounds realistic for this one.

Dubai remids me on Sim City computer game that i used to play long time ago. They are building a city of dreams from scratch. At first there is nothing and you start to build. It doesn't take much time that skyscrapers start rising. Just like in the game....

(edit: oh yeah, and i think i already sow this two towers somewhere,..... in Kuala Lumpur i think...)

By the way, is there any info on how many people the entire Lagoons project is meant to house?

Dubai Creek mega project to include world's tallest twin towers

Dubai developer Emaar Properties and investment firm Dubai Holding on Monday unveiled plans for a multi-million project known as Dubai Creek Harbour at The Lagoons, which will contain the world’s tallest twin towers.
The masterplan will contain a dedicated retail precinct, pedestrian walkways and The Dubai Twin Towers, an iconic mixed-use development billed to be the tallest twin towers in the world.

At present, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 452m and 88 floors hold the record for the tallest twin towers in the world.

The Emirates Park Towers, otherwise known as the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Hotel, come in second at 395m and 77 floors, while third in the current rankings are Jumeirah Emirates Towers, at 354m and up to 56 floors.

Why can't they combine these two and come up with the tallest tower instead of twins! Or twist and turn them around each other to get Dubai City Tower!

Two 500m+ towers standing next to each other will be nearly as iconic and impressive!
