Retro-futurism... It looks like some cartoons of the 50´ or 60´...

It looks like something out of 1960s Archigram or the Japanese metabolists. And just like those designs, this one most likely won't be built.

It's most likely a publicity stunt. Though I wouldn't mind staying in a hotel with a view of Barcelona, or the water.

Don't go on building that! Not that i really think it will be build.

Barcelona is my favorite city and it would be horrible to see thing like this rise anywhere near the city.

^ideally you'd get a hotel room inside that thing. then you've have a view of the city, and you wouldn't need to see the hotel itself.

i don't think it's the worst thing ever, and it most likely will never be built, so no one has to worry.

Barcelona is my all time favourite travel destination. Its beautiful mountain ranges and delightful climate are attracting people from all over the world. It is an amazing place and perfect for vacation or honeymoon holidays.

Exactly. It's a concept. Nothing more.

I think the coastal laws in Spain would not allow such a thing but I wouldn't mind a nice ensemble in front of the coast. Space is running out in the city. Singapore did a similar thing expanding into the sea.

Major of Barcelona rejects this projects.

Uf... we are lucky in Barcelona we don't want this ugly building.

We like skyscrapers but not in Barcelona, maybe in future in a disctric out Barcelona we can do a Downtown, but we can't do buldings of 300 metres in middle of the city.

Sagrada Familia will be the tallest building in the city with 170m and the tallest church in the world.

Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities with low buildings in europe, this horrible design will destroy the skyline...

Barcelona's mayor dismisses Dubai-style island plan21 May 2013

Plans to develop a Dubai-style artificial island off the coast of Barcelona featuring a 1,000ft-high Space Hotel have been rejected by the city's mayor.

A multinational consortium is seeking planning permission to build the €1.5bn (£1.27bn) resort, but Xavier Trias told Catalan news channel 3/24 that the project is 'not in keeping' with his vision for the city, the Telegraph reports.

'We are a city of culture, knowledge, of creativity, and of innovation, and our project [for the city] will follow a different path,' he added.

'We have no intention of turning Barcelona into a spectacle.'

Dubai is famous for its outlandish architecture, including the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, and its man-made Palm Islands and the World, which features sand shaped into the countries of the world.

However, the World project ran into difficulties with a lack of interest from investors and safety problems caused by subsidence and erosion.

I agree. Building this crappy design in a beautyful city like Barcelona would be a big mistake.

Um...no. Just no.

This can't be real. Firstly , that render looks like it was made by a twelve year old. Secondly , it's got to be the dumbest PR campaign I've ever heard. "Space hotel" ? Come on.

This stuff dozent sound very serious there is no Serious established business backing this project and the political cooperation is definitely not there neither.

But then again i like the design alot very sci fi and modern. abit messy yes but that kinda makes it look like a little city skyline of its own.

And if they could somehow manage to pull the whole space vision hotel concept through it would be very cool and revolutionary.

but it would require shitloads of power with all those screens and enormous computing power also to control the displays.

They should bring this stuff to Dubai would fit right at home there
