Would love to see it become a reality but is it really a possibility that some developer is considering?

Thanks, Hudson for posting this!
That site is an empty parking lot that runs from 28th to 29th between 5th and B'Way.

Thanks, Lex. I read somewhere though that the property may be partially lie in a historic district and there would be hell to pay from the neighborhood if there was a serious attempt to put something like that there. On another site there were the usual suspects complaining how ugly and unworthy of sharing the same space of the ESB, blocking views, etc.

You are right! It would in fact be partially located within the Historic District of Madison Sq North.

It all depends where the footprint of the tower would be.. If it’s located outside the red boundary, then this tower would be no issue and out of jurisdiction for Landmarks to set height restriction if it’s a “as of right” development site.

I figured this is the thread discussion of that mystery tower would turn up in. Should we start a new one -- maybe in Visions until we have some more concrete details -- where we can sleuth out the details without going off-topic for several pages?

I'm not 100% sure that NY YIMBY has the right development site.

I think it may be the development site on the north side of 29th street, not the south side. We already know a tall tower is going in on the north side of the street, using the adjacent church air rights.

I haven't yet heard any news on the development site on the south side of the block, but it could also be a possibility.

The north side of 29th is HFZ's site, which runs to 30th St. It's tower won't be nearly this tall.

This site appears to be the empty lot between 28th and 29th. It appears to be south of the Collegiate Church's spire.

The area in question pertaining to this supertall for available FAR. I know it's OT for this thread but here it is anyway.

This could be another version for this mystery site as well. Much shorter though.

That's the site between 5th and Broadway on 30th which is now a parking lot. It runs to 29th. Yimby posted another super tall vision for the site a few months ago.

No. Nothing will be built there any time soon. The parking lot on the site was just repaved. I assume that the site is being marketed to developers.

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...ting-headwinds

High-end condos hitting headwinds
Some of the city's most expensive units are now struggling to attract buyers.

Quote:
That is the risk now facing two other new condos, 17 E. 12th St. and 45 E. 22nd St. Both appear to have gotten off to a slow sales start. According to market sources and real estate database StreetEasy, there have been no confirmed sales at 17 E. 12th St. and only a few at 45 E. 22nd St.

A spokesman for Bruce Eichner, the builder of 45 E. 22nd St., a 65-story pencil-thin spire, declined to comment on the apparent lack of sales there. Only a handful of the planned 83 units have been released in recent weeks, and five appear to be in contract totaling nearly $20 million, according to StreetEasy.
Hopefully this baby will get off the ground!

Would be a shame if that were true, I love the building in the last render!

I was going to post the same thing but from that photo it's inconclusive. Great update anyway.
