The combination of the two is a recipe for perfection.
To be clear, the Golden Gate Bridge is far from downtown. The impressive bridge+skyline picture a few posts back and the one normally seen with downtown is the Bay Bridge. The Golden Gate is off to the right of the pic. Just about the only way to have a picture of downtown and the Golden Gate in the same picture is to be in the Marin Headlands, and with that distance and the hills in the way the skyline doesn't look as impressive.

Gotta remember the view from Berkeley/Emeryville! The Golden Gate looks incredible from there, and there's an illusion that it springs right out of the skyline when viewed from that direction.

I knew that for a while and forgot again. Now that you teach me again, I'll keep in mind and will be one of the 0.0001% of non-Americans who know it's not the Golden Gate Bridge in SF skyline shots.

This is an absolutely spectacular proposal. Perhaps the nicest one of this cycle. Once this is built, I think San Francisco will easily take the US no.3 skyline spot. Even though there are multiple skylines in the US that have larger skylines.

people aren't realizing that this is actually two separate very tall towers. i'm not allowed to post links/photos yet on this account because i've responded too few times, but i encourage people to google for renderings of the future waldorf-astoria tower that will front mission street, it's not in many of the images of oceanwide center, but it's almost nicer. a great addition, despite the annoying driveway that will jam up mission street.

also, i work next to this site and i can report that the old buildings (which really were quite lovely and unique, sadly) are now almost totally gone.

finally, sf's skyline is pretty nice, it's attractive and will become even more so. in addition to oceanwide center's two towers, there are 7 other major towers by internationally-renowned architects under construction or in advanced preconstruction. i encourage people to google for those. toronto's skyline though is still more impressive, imo. toronto has a sterile, monotonous look, but it's dense and broad, and if you look at what's in the pipeline, the volume is (as a san franciscan) unbelievable. i'm talking 100+ towers in some state of pre-construction/construction, just mind-blowing to me.

I think its time to move this to U/C pile driver and cassion cages on site, they probably have already sunk a couple cassions.

A beautiful addition to the San Francisco skyline and an impressive addition to the city's overall growth in height in the past few years. Toronto's skyline may have filled in but SF's sprang up.

It's also definitely U/C at this point, walked past it today checking out the Transbay terminal and the construction crew was hoisting up caissons.

I am so glad that this 2050 looking building will come to San Francisco.
I am so exited to see it rise.

Wow. That looks fantastic. I wish something like that would get built in Toronto or Detroit.

What do you mean? In Toronto, they are building high rises all over the place. I bet a building like this is being planned.
