That says it all

That's the mysterious place all completed/canceled projects eventually go.

You got a better chance of seeing Moses than seeing these towers rise before 2025.

Considering MSG's lease runs until 2023--yes, that's very true. (Not that any of these particular proposals seem terribly likely anyway.)

Well, even if they are never built it makes for an interesting exploration for what could be. What it does reveal is that the city has ambitions to continue to build more and taller skyscrapers in the future. I think many here will agree that is a good thing.

Great. Embrace yourself people. There are hundreds of pages of people arguing whether this is vision or not ahead of us

But it's just for the decade or something

Fantasy threads are all the supertall proposals for Bogota in Latinscrapers. While these might not be the final renders, this is a legitimate development that will happen in due time. And given New York's boom, it's a bit preposterous to say something like this is impossible.

No, this is Ned Flanders humor. New York humor goes for the jugular.

You wouldn't know Ned Flanders from Moll Flanders. And why would you know anything about "New York humor"?

Article from two months back regarding the challenges presented by this project, and whether there are cheaper alternatives to a massive re-build.

I saw Charlton Heston (Moses) reading "Winnie the Pooh" at a LA City library ~two decades ago & I am a NYer...

I know virtually nothing regarding Moll or Ned Flanders.

Note that the LIRR's ESA project was 1st proposed in the late '60s as a new multimodal transportation center & it IS coming to fruition now. This decade, I hope.

On the practical side for Penn Station, Amtrak will be getting the 1st 800 feet of Gateway Tunnel (box for new Hudson River tunnels) in the next two years.

IMHO, I think these 3rd & 4th Amtrak (& NJTransit & Metro- North) Hudson River tunnels are more PRACTICAL enhancements to Penn station than building a nice headhouse/building on top of the poorly laid-out lower levels.

The big thing for these practical additions is FUNDING the many billions to build the tunnels.

I was not going to bring up our current severely dysfunctional national politics. We'll see what happens in the 2014 elections.

Though at the state level, AFAIK, Gov. Christie has not talked about a replacement for the ARC he canceled.

The driver for more tunnels across the Hudson is the NYC metro area's (NY, NJ, CT) growing population. I think NYC itself is supposed to grow to 9 million. We're certainly building a lot of residential towers in former industrial and/or low-density areas.

A pretty/beautiful above-ground portion of Penn Station would be nice, but Amtrak & "the others" will get SOME improvements within the next few years with new entrances through the Farley PO across 8th Ave & a wider concourse under 33rd st AND improved ventilation. For a projected $270M, projected completion in 2016. Note that I'm NOT stating that this would be a NEW "Penn Station", just an improvement.

PS: maybe the improved ventilation is for the platforms when the Manhattan West platform blocks the "open air" western end of the century+ old Pennsylvania RR pit...
Since people love graphics this is a 7/2012 render what the new entrance on 6th Ave & 33rd might look like. The shiny anti-truck bomb bollards might also be part of the Phase 1 upgrade. It's a FAR cry from a spiffy NEW Penn Station but...

Oh no reason, except I've extensively visited New York, haved lived in South Orange and studied in Princeton (where I was in New York every weekend). As for you bringing up Moll Flanders and Charlton Heston: I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're in your 70s and have no clue about New York humor today.

Thx: that made me chuckle.
I brought up Charlton Heston since McSky had posted a photo of Heston as Moses in "The Ten Commandments" (1956) and we did see him reading Winnie the Pooh to kids more than 20 year ago. He was not dressed as Moses, just suit & tie, no beard. Impressive voice, nonetheless.

To paraphrase somebody else, most of these remove-MSG-and-let-the-Penn-concourses-breath schemes will not happen. In that vain, I've seen at least one sketch for a passageway under the Farley PO & the real-soon now Manhattan West platform & AP building to link the current Penn Station (8th Ave) and the Hudson Yards complex (10th Ave).
