Not trying to make light of the situation, obviously it's terrible that anybody has to live this way. But you have to applaud his building skills.

Also, and for no particular reason, I think I found the EarthCam.

there must be a humorous moniker we could give a skyscraper cake

BY SAM SPOKONY | Any good birthday bash requires a top-notch cake — and so it was for hundreds of Hudson Yards construction workers on Wednesday, December 4, as they celebrated their first year of work on the West Side site by digging into a sugary, five-foot-tall replica of one of the development’s future office towers.
...
It was Fairway that supplied the 10 Hudson Yards cake, to the delight of workers who got a brief break from the job so they could enjoy the icing-topped treat.

Spate of articles/events on anniversary

All access to this earthcam is handled by the USA's NSA. They will probably be contacting YOU, courtesy of your request. :-)

------------------
I think most of us just discovered today that there IS an earthcam overlooking the site, so I think it will take a while to find out if we can.

Note that j-biz's photo that indicates the earthcam on top of the ohm building (312 11th Ave @30th St) was taken today, at local ~noontime.

One of today's articles on the anniversary restated the opening in summer 2015.

The quote below is from Time Warner Cable's NY1 channel article which also has a video
http://www.ny1.com/content/news/1997...well-under-way

Quote:
The first tower to open on the site will be 10 Hudson Yards, a combination of retail and office space. It will open in 2015 and the most complicated part of construction for the building is already accomplished, building the foundation and the complex lower floors. Now it's about building vertically up to 52 stories.

"We pour the walls, then we build the scaffolding, and we put the floor in and then we go on top of that floor again, pour the walls and put the scaffolding in," said Dean O'Connor, a site carpenter.

Tall Cake, Short Break: Celebrating Year One of Hudson Yards Project
Quote:
“I’m happy to say that we’re right on schedule, and right on budget,” said Ronald Wackrow, the executive vice president of Related who is overseeing the Hudson Yards construction, who made an appearance at the “first birthday” event.
- See more at: http://chelseanow.com/2013/12/tall-c....ErFkcbJk.dpuf

Both photos are looking east tower the tower, with the High Line Phase 3 on the right:

Photos by Sam Spokony
"Hudson Yards construction workers joined executives from Related and Fairway Market around the cake modeled after 10 Hudson Yards."
This article also touches on the public peace between Related and the construction unions, etc.
I assume this photo is from today's "birthday" celebration.

I searched and searched for a link to the EarthCam feed, to no avail. They haven't made it public, I guess... somebody should write Related on behalf of the skyscraper nerds.

Here's another from KPF's themodulorman, this time an outside corner of what I assume is the South Tower mockup. Summer 2015 (tower opening) is not that far away:

It would be even better for him/her surviving winter at this spot on the 11th Ave viaduct if they could tap into the light pole's electric wiring for simple electric resistance heating.

NYC winter's coming...

KPF's themodulorman is the source AND the photos were tagged "hudson yards" so they could be for any of the KPF HY buidlings.

I'll leave a comment & see if he responds.

This is another themodulorman photo that shows a few of the mock-ups at that site, including a sloped roof on the right:

Holy crap this is moving quickly.

Also, great finds on the glass, guys. If the whole complex turns out to be an incoherent mess, at least it will fade gracefully into the sky!

I know, it's just amazing to see what happens when a developer really wants a project to move quickly and has the funds to make it happen

Yes. KPF's themodulorman has responded to my question if his Hudson Yard curtain wall mockup photos were for the south tower with:
"this is one mockup of 3 for the south tower."

Agree and this is why this tower when all said and done is going to be way better than the renderings could ever do because of the glass/cladding. Type of cladding used will make any Cinderella into a princess.. Best example.... 4 WTC

Yeah, but I don't know who supplies the black helicopters. The UN?

On a more serious note remember that this site is not that far from the failed 2010 car bomb attempt in Times Square.

The possible threat of a terrorist attack in a crowded, well known area is always there AND midtown Manhattan has PLENTY of media to publicize it.

I'm not trying to incite anything here, just stating the thread/threat that underlies a lot of this stuff.
