Platform foundation start real soon

The construction of the PanAm building is before my time, so that is interesting. MTA contractors are busy converting part of the lower track level of GCT to LIRR space as part of the LIRR ESA (East Side Access). ESA is currently 40+ years in the making.

Recalling what was reported in the last couple of weeks, I expect that actual caisson drill work on the overbuild platform's foundations should start in the next couple of weeks (before the March 21 calendar start of spring). The 2014 portion of the HY timeline displayed at TWC Decemeber '13 showed that they also planned to have the Culture Shed plaza built up to the level of the High Line & overbuild platform/retail podium:

Two of the drills are still south of the pretty-deep-now Amtrak Gateway tunnel box excavation. I assume these two drills, shown in my snip of a j-biz photo (looking east from 11th Ave viaduct, aligned roughly with W 31st St) below, will be used to drill in the strip of land between the excavation and the 10 HY/Culture Shed plaza area in the right half of photo snip.

There should be a LOT of construction activity start w/ steel & concrete rising in the next few months, including (maybe) the Culture Shed plaza rising in the right hand side of above photo.

According to Related, 15 HY will be the next to start, followed by 30 and then 35 HY. As to when, according to their original claims 15 HY should be breaking ground 1Q of this year. I wouldn't hold your breath, though. As you can see, they've got a lot of work left to do on the Amtrak tunnel box, which presumably needs to be completed before foundation work can begin.

flickr's tectonic took a couple of photos of the Hudson Yards construction from the 11th Ave viaduct a couple of days after j-biz took his set (posted earlier).
The tectonic photo below shows a wider angle view of the overall site and captures more of the future 15 HY footprint which is currently occupied by (along the photo bottom) the tunnel box excavation, soil, and a few compressors. The yellow excavator at photo right is probably on the 15 HY site also. I'm assuming the big pipes laying on the soil will be used to help keep the excavation open as the excavators hammer deeper.

New HY facebook post: up to 5th floor

The HY facebook page posted this today:

Getting ready for Monday's 5th floor concrete pour. 10 Hudson Yards is growing so fast!
Photo looking west from 10th Ave & ~31st St.

https://www.facebook.com/HudsonYards...tion=timeline#

AND I'm reposting the March 10th j-biz photo shows that at least one of the large caisson drills has started drilling agin. We assume this is the first new caisson for the Hudson Yards overbuild platform, starting with the platform that will abut 10 HY/the Culture Shed Plaza/the Culture Shed tower (15 HY)

Now, all we need is spring to finally start!

maybe 10 floors.

After 5M, the floors get far less complicated and they will be able to get some momentum...

А эти дома строят на месте бывшего WTC ?
And these houses build on a place of the former WTC?

Nice picture. Great to see that it's getting taller. Helps reveal its shape better.

Area around there is ripe for ruthless and mass demolishing campaign. it is very bleak, dusty, lacks any kind of character, consists of mostly run down buildings and in general look pretty bad. except for the building on the 9th avenue and corner of 36str which is pretty nice - EVERYTHING else have to go ASAP.

this is literally only one building worth any attention and worth saving.
475 10th ave

The one with the "Draft Day" sign wouldn't be so bad if it was kept in better shape.

I was thinking the same thing!
Alot of buildings are like that though... they haven't been looked after well so many people automatically deem them as drab and horrible when infact half of them just need a good refurbishment, if that
