It's finally starting to look like a building now that many of the columns are visible and it's starting to look huge despite not being overly tall yet great update

What's the dark cladding/material that's been partly applied towards the bottom btw? Cant really make it out on my phone but it looks like dark brick?

I was wondering that myself. Whatever it is, it won't be visible for long since the retail podium will be at least that tall.

Thanks. For those not in the constrictuion biz, CMU = Concrete Masonry Unit (to the layman/HomeDepot customer, a concrete block).

I snipped from the recently posted Timothy Rezendes "Hudson Yards and the River Beyond" overview to provide more detail of the Yards themselves. His photo also shows CMU wall and has a different vantage point/view than most of the other oblique views I've seen (looking east):

Will a new crane go in that spot or will they move one of the ones already present?

Why is this progressing upwards so slowly? I understand that the building is pretty complicated, but this is ridiculous. Over the past several months, it has hardly seems to have gained more than a floor or two.

Good question. It would be interesting to gather up a few photos shot from the same location (say the VERY popular High Line looking north) for a height progress rate...
For example, this ILNY photo of 10 HY from the HL has a nice reference of 10 HY height to the floors on the recently completed Abington House. And you have a north-south reference on the HL courtesy of the building on the left. Assuming they do not demolish the nondescript building on the left in the next few months...

I do not know the answer, but T-P (Tutor-Perini) is putting in a lot of effort around the ENTIRE site. So maybe they just have hit resource limitations.

For example, jacko5's recent photos show that they have just started steel erection for the terra-firma platform west-adjacent to 10 HY. This jacko5 photo is looking NW (down from 10 HY I assume) & shows the just erected steel with the "High Line at the Rail Yard" under construction in the bottom left; 10 HY is in the bottom right (I think)

thejacko5

And they've been building the reinforced concrete tunnel box (a not-insignificant concrete structure) in the excavation north of 10 HY for the last few months. & they still have to finish excavating in the middle of the trench.

And (I assume) they're going to have at least 3 caisson drill rigs drilling the 250+ caissons soon, which AFAIK will require concrete & rebar.

Note that T-P also has contracts for the MTA/LIRR's East Side Access (ESA) on the other side of the East River, doing similar stuff...
In the MTACC (MTA Capital Construction) photo below T-P is doing some kinda excavating, within an excavation for the lower level of the 63rd st tunnel bellmouth. The photo is near Queens Plaza, Queens, but the reference is to the east end of the 1970's vintage tunnel from 63rd street Manhattan.

MTACC
CQ032 - Bellmouth - South Wall Foundation Excavation (06-04-2014)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtacc-esa/14353290835/

MTACC contract CQ032 uses a LOT of concrete, rebar, steel & of course, workers...CQ032 is just one of many contracts for the MTA/LIRR's ESA, but ESA is MANY years behind schedule....

EDIT: Or maybe they ran out of scaffolding to hold the floors up whilst the concrete fully cures due to a fundamental calculation error...

The HY NY FB post merely states "10 Hudson Yards":

The photo is looking east along the street level of the terra firma plaza towards 10 HY. The concrete slab at photo bottom is, I assume, the base for the floor of the future Fairview Market, or maybe an internal truck ramp/loading dock area for the market.

@HudsonYardsExp
I Did Not Know That either, thx.

"Looking forward to 2015 and @Coach @LOrealParisUSA @SAP @FairwayMarket in the #NHNY!" - I can IMAGINE the Fairway Market opening opening in 2015, but based upon the 10 HY progress I'm highly doubtful Coach, etc will be operating from 10 HY in 2015.
Because I doubt 10 HY will get to what is shown below for 2014 in the next 6 1/2 months:
