The overbuild platform is making visible progress.

And your old "class C" office building & smokestack was photographed by tourists & posted!:

So it was! Haven't been back since my last day, over two months ago now. Keep meaning to carve out the time, but you know how it goes.

That angle is getting interesting, though. The final shape is really evident.

Yes: looking at the higher res version of photo reminded me that somebody had commented recently that the formwork removal from the 10th Ave lobby showed how tall the lobby will be.

The lower levels of the building ARE taking shape visually; maybe I should take the LIRR into Penn with a real camera BEFORE the LIRR union(s) go on strike.

I really do not understand why this is going so slow... It's ridiculous!

I mean those newest photos do show some slight progress and it's starting to look tall... but it should've been at that stage many months ago...

the use of concrete looks like its over complicating things as far as the build goes.

yes, it was a terrible decision to use concrete.

I didn't realise changing to concrete would create such a slow process!
How come many other buildings built with concrete are much faster? Is it a complex design? Or a sudden switch from steel to concrete which left little room for planners and engineers to sort it out?

View from the 12th floor of 10 HY, today 7/18 assumed

This HY FB post implies they are up to the 12th floor. View is looking north and visual info shown is really of the 30 HY "site" (yellow caisson drill and heavy duty red crane) and block 1 & 2 of HP&B:

HY NY "The view from the 12th floor at 10 Hudson Yards."

Note that ILNY(_) posts photos of the ~midtown skyline from NJ occasionally. I have yet to discern 10HY from the photos whose viewpoint is west of whatever stadium is in the meadowlands. But you can try at largest res. You can use the distinguished AP bldg near photo right edge as a reference:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/873729...46407/sizes/k/

Note also that the #7 subway station entrances shown in the HY FB ophoto will not open till Feb 2015, earliest. According to the NYTimes 6/23:

Quote:
That project, which had been scheduled to open by the end of this year, will not be completed before February 2015, even on a newly accelerated timeline, an engineering consultant, Darlene Rivera, told board members. If contractors cannot meet the new timeline, the project could drag on until spring 2015.

Slightly off topic but from the angle from which the skyline shot you linked was taken 432 Park doesn't look thin at all. It is nearly as wide as the ESB and wider than 157

If you like recent skyline ~midtown skyline shots ILNY(_) has a zoomed out one here, which starts slightly north of the ESB. The stadium is the MetLife Stadium...

photos of progress on surrounding platform

Thanks for the photo & it's perspective; I assume it was taken from atop the NJ palisades in Unuin City? It captures one of the things I like about the HY area: it's old "grit". Even includes the LARGE yellow billboard advertising the-probably-not-long-for-this-earth drive-thru McDonalds.

The HY FB page posts a link to a new 7/18 Gizmodo article by Nichloas Stango on the overall HY project. Nothing really new in the article, but it does have new, undated photos. One example is the photo below which shows workers pouring the crown/roof of the Amtrak tunnel's west end. Photo is looking WSW with the erected steel of the overbuild platform's first phase at right:

Gizmodo

From this article:

Inside the Futuristic Neighborhood Being Built Over a Busy NYC Rail Yard

Nicholas Stango
Filed to: HUDSON YARDS
NYC
DEVELOPMENT
Yesterday 2:16pm

http://gizmodo.com/inside-the-futuri...a-b-1606935392

And this Gizmodo photo has probably the best capture I've seen so far of the overbuild platform (rusty-looking steel) with the remaining (white) steel of the LIRR MoE building underneath it. 10 HY is the backdrop, photo is looking south. The holes in the 10 HY CMU wall above the overbuild platform are future passageways between 10 HY and the 7? story retail podium that will be built on top of this section of overbuild platform:

Gizmodo 7/18/2014

The article has a few more photos. The ones I've posted indicate to me that Tutor-Perini is getting close to backfilling the western end of the Amtrak tunnel box excavation, which would allow them to rebuild the LIRR MoE buidling in that area, with the HY overbuild platform on top.
I'm guessing that the next few months will see the demolition of the 10th Ave vehicle ramp (not visible in this photo), so that the overbuild platform can be extended to the throat of the LIRR yard.

Progress!

This photo looking east from the 11th Ave end gives an overview of (center to right) the Amtrak tunnel box, overbuild platform & terra-firma platform/Culture Shed base/ base/future-home-to-Fairway Market, with 10HY as a (barely visible) backdrop on the right:

Anyone know if this crane back up? I heard somewhere they had to partially stop work due to safety issues wondering if they have resumed work on this site.

Curbed just posted a massive amount of HY photos here, a small sampling of which are posted below.

All photos by Max Touhey.

Looks like the core is either on floor 11 or 12 now!

It looks quite beastly there!

It will look even more beastly when the start bridging the ACTIVE LIRR mid-day storage tracks with the 50 foot by 100 foot trusses. The LIRR is the busiest commuter RR in the USA; the now-averted strike would have reeked havoc on commuting on Long Island. Dropping a truss across the LIRR tracks in the throat would not be good either.

The tour made it up to the 12th floor, dunno what that means WRT the core.

Related is still sticking to their story's timeline: "10 Hudson Yards is complete at the end of 2015."

The article does NOT mention the Fairway Market, which I can believe might open in 2015, since it will be built under the terra-firma platform (and in part of the 10HY first floor)...This Max Touhey photo is looking east with the terra-firma platform in the foreground, with a portion of the the 30th section of the "High Line at the Rail Yards" on the right. Other photos show that it looks like they are ready to pour the roof slab at the east end of the terra-firma platform. Gaggle of media provide color in this one:
