I KNOW KPF has interest in the curtain wall panel mounting. The AP HQ bldg across 10th Ave is the backdrop:

At the end of last week (7/25) we had a photo posted that showed a column marked with "EL[evation]: 212 feet" AND thejacko5 stated "11th fl".

This was after CCs77 estimated "about one floor every two weeks. I think they will speed up later"

The same day the column photo was posted, the HY FB page "Hudson Yards Fun Fact Friday!" was:
Quote:
Did you know there are more than 400 construction workers on our site today, making great progress on 10 Hudson Yards (our first office tower), the AMTRAK Gateway Tunnel and "the platform". It's true! And by this time next year there will be thousands more working on the entire Eastern Rail Yard (4 office towers, 6 acres of public open space, 20 restaurants, 100 shops and 500 residences).
So, 5 days later, with good weather, 10 HY is at....????

yes and themodulorman's arty/design side has captured it very nicely. I like the mix old low rise & modern. The "High Line at the Rail Yards" section opening this will integrate them further.

Note that

Even at under 900 ft, this tower is going to look colossal from this angle. And to think, it's just the first...

Yes and I hope the public space/parks integrate well w/ the tower & the overall development.

Great photo and thanks to desertpunk for finding it!
I've taken the liberty of snipping the ERY from the Maxim Pierre photo and reposting it below:

True. It will be approximately 3 times the height of 500 West 30th Street (the new brick tower) next door, which is 325 feet tall.

Yeah, it's a nice photo.

The green roof on Javitz was part of the renovation/expansion in the last decade.

They had to build huge angled columns supporting a 900 foot tower over the high line, a mechanical floor, mezzanine floors, high-ceiling lobbies, etc. etc. And all this in concrete, not using steel. What did you expect?

The overall Hudson Yards project has a history that spans at least a decade. In this decade the MTA leased the air rights over the yards in May 2010.
In October 2010, NJ guv Christie canceled the trans-Hudson ARC project which meant "somebody (other than NJ) should do something" about expanding already-at-its-limits trans-Hudson rail service. A federally funded corp (Amtrak) responded with a placeholder that meant excavation IN the MTA rail yard. All that Amtrak needed was $$$$$$$$$.

Running in parallel:
Quote:
In April 2013, the Related/Oxford joint venture obtained a $475 million construction loan from parties including Barry Sternlicht's Starwood Capital Group and luxury retailer Coach. The financing deal was unique in several aspects, including the fact that it included a construction mezzanine loan, that Coach was a lender on both the debt and equity sides,[8] and that the MTA helped create the "severable lease" structure that allowed for the loans.
- wikipedia

Plus 10 HY construction has had at least a couple of stop work orders, NYC area had a brutal winter, people have questioned the use of concrete instead of steel, etc, etc.

It's a complicated project; see below for a THREE WEEKS OLD MTAphoto panorama of the overall Hudson Yards site:

Photo: Metropolitan Transportation Authority / Patrick Cashin 7/11/2014
Construction at Hudson Yards
Giant cranes and boring machines work in tight quarters with the Long Island Rail Road’s 24/7 operations at the LIRR west side storage yard to construct the platform that will support the office towers, apartments and shopping center of a new neighborhood being constructed by the Related Companies at 10th Avenue between 30th and 33rd streets on Manhattan’s west side. Simultaneously a concrete casing as route protection for Amtrak’s future trans-Hudson tunnel is being constructed. Photo: Metropolitan Transportation Authority / Patrick Cashin
