Nieman Marcus To Anchor The Shops at Hudson Yards

Quote:
2018 is going to be a major year for New York City retail—aside from that long-awaited Nordstrom, the rumors about Neiman Marcus have finally been confirmed. The Dallas-based retailer talked to the New York Times about its New York City debut in Hudson Yards, slated to open in 2018.

"We needed to make sure that if we were taking this big, big step of coming to Manhattan, that we had a store that was going to be very impressive," Neiman Marcus Group chief executive Karen Katz said. And impressive it will be—they'll be taking 250,000 square feet of space on 10th Avenue between 31st and 32nd streets.

Though this will be the first branded Neiman Marcus store in the city, it's certainly had a presence here for a while—Bergdorf Goodman is owned by the luxury retailer. But it won't feel like the same store in two different locations, Katz insists. Bergdorf's will cater to the "very top of luxury and fashion," while Neiman Marcus will "appeal to a broader luxury and fashion customer," and especially out-of-towners.

"The number of tourists coming through Hudson Yards and the population that will be moving to and living in the West Side of the city will continue to grow," she told the paper. "We'll be serving those customers."

The store will be on floors five through seven of the Related Companies retail complex. "This entire project has been bespoke-tailored around Neiman Marcus," said Related retail leasing executive Kenneth Himmel. "It's not just an anchor tenant. It makes a statement for our project."

That bites Stig! The highline is very cool nonetheless even if it only reaches up to the coach tower. You will see how massive a building it is.

No worries, I will post pics!

... and the tower keeps growing.

Was/is there stop work order? There was no work done on last Saturday and cranes had no hooks. They are usually very busy on Saturdays.

Doesn't look like there were any stop work orders active last Saturday. Must have just been the Labor Day weekend.

PS - you can check all the stop work orders on the DOB's Building Information System search tool: http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/bispi00.jsp

10 HY's BID is 1089323.

I assume that the food cart pictured below will still be at the real-soon-now Northern terminus of the High Line (south side of W34th, west of 11th Ave. A hot dog was $3 at the food cart in front of Javitz & I assume food cart prices are competitive.

8.14.2014 looking west, High Line terminus behind green plywood barrier in photo center.

And here's the latest drone footage from animalneyork of the same location, this time looking NE (drone position is on map inset in bottom left). They have cleared the truck trailers out of the parking lot as prep for the [email protected] RY opening; it was still full of trailers 3 weeks ago. The sites of 55 HY & 3 HB & blocks 1 & 2 of the not-yet-open Hudson Park Boulevard are just across 11th Ave (top right corner of drone photo) from the northern terminus of the HL. They might be doing blasting at 3 HB!

That last picture reminded me, is this still being built? http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2013/1...line_phase.php
Edit: i answered my own question after reading New York yimby this morning, "High Line Park [Curbed]: The third phase of the High Line — which wraps around the current Hudson Rail Yards — is set to open September 21st; completion of the elevated park is imminent, with the “salad bowl” over 10th Avenue expected to open in 2015."

I'm assuming the opening of the last bit of the High LIne is predicated on the opening 10 HY, so if that slips into 2016...

But, the modulorman has posted new photos of 10 HY, including this one of a column with cryptic markings. Maybe Column 5, floor 15, MilePost12?

And a visually-human interesting one. I'm assuming the guy with the cowboy hat is operating a control for a concrete pump:

Thanks: I was unable to connect the words. Dunno what that means though I have watched three episodes of "You're the worst" to stay hip with today's young adults.

Maybe jacko will shed light on the column markings...

"Bloomberg's CEO will focus on Hudson Yards' Culture Shed"

Culture Shed news from Crain's:

Doctoroff sets sights on Hudson Yards role
Bloomberg's CEO will focus on Hudson Yards' Culture Shed
http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...son-yards-role

Quote:
The Bloomberg administration's $50 million grant to Culture Shed raised eyebrows last year, with some thinking it was an especially generous contribution to an organization that didn't have a staff, budget or programming. There were no additional funds for Culture Shed in Mayor Bill de Blasio's first budget, according to a spokesman for the city's Department of Cultural Affairs.
According to papers filed with the IRS, Culture Shed was expecting to raise $101 million in 2013, and $96 million this year.

What's more interesting is the horizontal line just below that and the small number 203-6". That seems to be an elevation, what is that relative to?

Thanks - I didn't even notice. Previous modulorman photos have shown 225'-6" on a column

themodulorman

jacko has referred to elevations before (example 30HY and the overbuild platform), but I forgot to ask "Elevation relative to WHAT?"

It was incredible! So much to do there, I underestimated how much there actually is!
I was incredibly hyped for it and it still exceeded my expectations, will definitely go again when I have the chance
