Yes, thank you for the photos! I'm impressed by how the recent iPhones can take such good photos.

I just looked at Google Maps street view for 31st & 10th Ave. It's 26 months old, but it does show a NYC Capital Investment Program banner stating the Water Tunnel #3 shaft 26B related water distribution improvements.

LOTSA stuff happening at and near the site and the weather's good. Your photos of the Manhattan West platform erector are impressive.
I imagine that thing could be standing on it's legs in the next couple of months. I betcha most NJ Transit or Amtrak travelers into Penn have no idea that thing is being built above their heads.

Certainly a good time to visit NYC/Manhattan, especially if you wind up at Penn Station for travel into Manhattan.

Thanks! I assume they'll tie into the NYC water and sewer improvements that are being excavated on 10th Ave & eventually 30th st, correct?

The weather's good, they have two tower cranes now, a lot of equipment staged: seems like upward progress should get going soon.

I wonder where they'll stage the steel?

Why do they call the first tower of Hudson Yards the "Coach Tower"? Why can't they just call it "One Hudson Yards" or something?

There's another tower that has already claimed that name.

Depending upon document, it's either Tower C, Coach Tower or South Tower. In this NYC document it's just Related Tower C:

IIRC Coach has an agreement w/ Related that if the tower is invoked by name, it will be the Coach Tower.

Nope! One of the other tenants -- I believe it's l'Oreal -- actually has an agreement with Related that states the tower can't be identified by any of its tenants' names. So while we forumers and publications are all calling it "Coach Tower" you'll note that Related actually goes way out of their way not to identify it that way.

That's why Coach bought up the naming rights for the part of the Highline that passes underneath the tower and called it "Coach Passage." It's a clever workaround. People on the highline are going to be facing the Coach atrium and standing on "Coach Passage," and so everyone who goes there is going to think of it as "Coach Tower" even though it'll never say so anywhere on the building.

Coach tower is the unofficial name dubbed in the media and IMO rightfully so because Coach is the one that helped kick start the Hudson Yard Dream. The official name is just Tower C or 501 W 30 and probably will not change.

L’Oreal’s 402,000-foot lease in the 1.8 million square-foot South Tower has a clause that precludes that tower from being named for any “entity” — whether a tenant or “otherwise” — while other clauses prevent leasing to competitors.

Many already call it the “Coach Tower” for its anchor tenant, while Related execs circumspectly refer to it as “Tower C” or, rarely, by its address at 501 W. 30th St

And maybe it will, based upon the gizmo seen in j-biz/jglover1028's latest photos of the site, taken Friday 9/6/2013.

This jglover1028 photo is looking west across 10th Ave. The gizmo (my terminology) is the multi-story yellow thing in the photo center.

Yea, the "gizmo" really popped out of nowhere. They were initially building the pieces on the High Line and I thought it was some beefed up scaffolding. Then they lifted it down there, and I have no what it is...

My guess is that the gizmo is the climbing system for the core.

maybe it's something for the core?
each 'square' going upwards seems to be the height of a floor, in relation to the orange men on the highline each 'square' is about twice there height, so about 3metres per floor by the looks of it

Another intertube page suggested that it was scaffolding for the tall lobby.

Hopefully we'll find out what it's for if j-biz and/or ilny keep taking photos and posting them.

Or maybe 'll take the LIRR in and take some photos: lots of stuff going on west of Penn Station.
